  1. The thing I want to see over time is emulating Tampa’s “Next Guy in” set up, where there’s a fully capable guy who can come in and play an assigned role from jump. They were sort of trying that last year but it wasn’t enough. Hopefully with Dupuis and McKee, we can start having that structure built this year.

  2. I think it is the best plan at this time. Would love to see Pulock or Mayfield moved but they have no movement clauses. It appears no one wants Duclair Palat or Engval. We have too many forwards as I would like to see the above mentioned not in the lineup so we can see Eiserman, Ecklund, Chaffee and Foudy with some consistency. We will not make the playoffs so why not treat this season as a growth or learning year. Letting Palat, Duclair and Engval play does nothing for us to make the playoffs

  3. Here's an angle to not re-signing Lee I would like to hear M&M explore. Did Darche want a fiery captain like Schenn rather than Lee's low key approach?
IF Schenn becomes captain, does it show Darche always planned to move Lee out? The whole 'roster space' excuse seems lame while Palat, Engvall and Duclair are on the roster.

  4. The 5 guys he mentioned are all upper 1st round picks – high percentage of making the NHL and being successful.
Are they worth trading – sure – but the asking prices for the return wasn't up to par IMO. Glad Darche held off.
    George makes the team.
Also have young guys like Big Mac, Chaffee and Kessels that the said core 5 must battle for space.

  5. THANK YOU !!! For FINALLY explaining to the armchair video game GM's that this team's prospect foundation did not exist when Darche took over. Darche is looking to restock the prospect pool, start a roster turnover while staying competitive !! After winning cups in Tampa, who have built a team that is in it EVERY YEAR, he knows what he needs to do. Give him some time !!!

  6. The best thing that can happen for Mathieu Darche in the upcoming season would be if the Islanders find themselves at or near the basement of the Metro by American Thanksgiving. When the Islanders were still in potential playoff contention in mid January last season…Palat, Soucy and then Schenn happened because ownership started planning on selling playoff seats and shit quickly went sideways. Clearly if ownership comes to Darche in mid-season again and says "We want that playoff revenue….make it happen", he will more than likely make more poor decisions that will further stall the rebuild…which this hockey team cannot afford.

  7. I don't want to see Darche do the same shit he did last season if we're having another overachieving season. 2 players willing this team while everyone else plays with Barbie dolls and a GM drinking the Kool aid like we're 1 piece away from cup contention is freaking insanity. I'm willing to give him ONE more chance, and that means his next handful of decisions better be hits!
