I think the Wallinder deal is intended to save him from getting picked up when they put him on waivers to go to GR. If I heard that right he now is under contract to earn 750k in 2027/2028 even if he's still in the AHL. Teams might be hesitant to pick that contract up for an AHL level player. I also think it shows that Detroit is seriously considering him as a viable member of their defense core, not this coming year but the following since they are going to be paying him almost an NHL salary regardless.

I appreciate and understand Yzerman’s choices up to this point. But it didn’t work out. It’s time to pivot to youth and in short order.
I absolutley do NOT want Detroit to deal with DALLAS for returns when we consistently been OWNED in any trades we done with them. Look at the whole Cossa debacle, it netted Dallas Wyatt Johntson and Logan Stankoven (both our original picks we gave up to move up to 15th), those players sure would have solved a ton on this team and probably meaning Larkin doesn't even make a trade request with those two highly skilled centers backing him up. I saw you discussed Roope Hintz on last video about a possible return for Larkin, which is ANOTHER GUY that was an original Red Wings draft pick that we gave up for a handful of games of Erik Cole. Janmark was another player they basically "stole" from us in trade. We consistently make bad trades with Dallas where Jim Nill seem to take advantage of his knowledge of Red Wings organization.
Also contract matters A TON and sure Robertson looks like a sexy pickup but if you make a deep dive into it, Larkin is more valueble (at C position and his great contract and cap). You have to pay Robertson DOUBLE what you pay Larkin to get him to sign, a barn minimum 15 mil. This for his offense alone?? Which is what. 10-12 more goals then Larkin put up (last season 34 goals compared to Robertson 45) and yeah Robertson has the upside of putting up 90-100 points, but will he do it HERE playing with friggin Andrew Copp/J.T Compher at center??? No, he wouldn't. So i think you overvalue a guy who wasnt even named to the Olympic team (because he is deemed a one dimensioned player you cant win with, compared to Larkin who was elevhem because he DO MORE then just score). God bless you guys for trying to find light in this tough situation but even trading Larkin straight up for Robertson is not a WIN in my books, and you talk about need to ADDING from OUR SIDE this while probably having to give him a Kaprizov contract??? Hell no. Just my two cents…
Also about the Lombardi trade, i have no idea why this move happened looking at this roster. Detroit is in DESPERATE need of players with skill and we keep shipping away everyone deemed "not a safe two way player" which this team is littered with and got us nowhere. Lombardi has a higher ceiling than Compher, Rasmussen, and Appleton. And in spite of their concern regarding his defense…can he be any worse than those three.???? Bullshit. They never gave him a chance. The Yzerplan was to build through the draft – and he didn't give him a chance to out shine Yzerman's poor trade players.

It's simple..there are 2 ways to acquire assets, especially in a non-premier destination like Detroit..1) draft well (we haven't really done that or we would be good by now) 2) fleece shitty GMs. So if we are bothering with teams like Dallas with good GMs then the assumption is Steve is the shitty GM. And none of them want to deal with Steve. Maybe that's because he has shitty young players he over valued because he thinks prospects who excel as 2 way players are valuable. I'm not saying they aren't, but ffs pick a talent with the right attitude and teach them to play defense. If they play a 200 foot game, to me that says they've had to learn that because they don't have enough offense to rely on.
