It does seem that our our ability to trade from a position of strength, will be from the R Defence position

While I love Reschny and his potential… I think people are sleeping on Gridin. With his vision, hockey sense, passing ability, and shot I think this kid is going to be a Superstar in the NHL. He should be Top 3 IMO.
Gridin will likely lead the flames in points this year
I think the least talked about part of Reschnys game is his proficiency on the face-offs. Ranked 4th at the world juniors with a 62% win rate, where he was used frequently in important situations in both offensive and defensive draws. And recorded a 54% win rate as a freshman in the NCAA, which ranked second among NCHC freshman centers (I haven’t looked into how this stacks against all NCAA freshman centers). Finished his year just shy of a point per game, while winning NCHC rookie of the year honours. I still think he projects to be a very solid 2C, but maybe with the right wingers he can be another Lindholm for us.
Grid in should be #3 and there is little debate about that. The only other possible person above him would be Reschny of course, after the two dmen ranked 1-2.
The flames are pretty good at drafting especially at first round. In the past it has been their contracts that are the problem. Identifying who is going to develop well and lock them up with a team friendly contract.
Flames need to sign Laine. Who cares if you overpay him for 2-3 years. We need someone to put pucks in the net
