Should the CANUCKS TRADE for Shane Wright?

Should the CANUCKS TRADE for Shane Wright?

According to Ben Kuzma of Postmedia (The Province), “…Vancouver is Wright’s preferred destination because of what the club could become in a few years.”

Would a trade for Shane Wright make sense for the Canucks?

  1. Shane Wright is a distressed asset and the Canucks were right to walk away from the reported Buium/Willander offer. As it sits, they have EP40, Rossi, Malhotra, Ratu, Chytil and Cootes on the C depth chart, plus Cotter and Sasson for depth. We don't really need another Center. Seattle, on the other hand, needs a blue chip D and pretty much need everywhere up and down the line-up. Then you have his agent pushing for the Canucks. We should only make this trade if there is a clear path to winning it.

  2. Chytl should be moved to the wing for his own wellbeing. I wouldn’t consider him a center any longer. Centers have a 25.4% higher incidence of concussions compared to wingers.

  3. Some people are worried that Shane Wright has an attitude problem which could poison the Canucks locker room not sure how accurate it is. He did give the Habs a death stare!

  4. Debrusk is one of those middle talents who expects to choose where he gets traded to though. In theory his contract is easy to trade but… no trade as of yet. He won't waive for go-nowhere Seattle because he wants to play for a winner. He clearly said he's not into rebuilds. I want Wright though simply because he's a young Canadian center. He's probably not a guy you build around but there's good odds of him panning out into a good 2nd or 3rd line center and he'd get lots of ice time to find his game.

  5. You can never have too many centres. You'd rather have a centre play on the wing than having too many wingers and nobody to play centre, aka what happened to the Canucks when Blueger and Chytil were injured last season.

  6. I would only trade Debrusk one for one for Wright…he is still an unproven top 6 forwards for any team. He is a 3rd line Centre. Seattle is asking way too much for him.

  7. Another at best number2 center. Might only be a number 3 center. Petey is the closest we have to a number 1 center. Kind of has echoes of Malhotra. Over hyped. Then get buyers remorse. Chances are we won't get Dupont but there are several centers who are slated to be number one centers in next years draft. We are in a rebuild. Not into fast tracking. In my opinion a bad trade no matter what..

  8. Trade what for him? A first round pick? Pass. Plus Willander? And that leaves what on defense? Just Zeev? Hey if the Canucks could draft more defense, whatever. But they refused. So also pass.
Shane Wright as a middle-6 center is a redundant asset in Vancouver. Think about it. Vancouver, who has pretty much zero effective centers, still has him being redundant. So why trade for him at all, let lone for two of few top assets the Canucks have?
