LIMITS: Why Calgary Flames Should TARGET Shane Wright But REFUSE Top Prospect Bids, First Rounders

Calgary Flames weigh Shane Wright’s trade availability. Should they risk a prized first-round pick for the once highly-touted center? We breaks down Wright’s NHL performance, the Flames’ center depth featuring Cole Reschny and Morgan Frost, and debates whether Calgary’s enviable prospect pool should be leveraged in a blockbuster move. Insightful fan reactions and trade scenarios add fuel to the speculation: is this the right moment for a Flames revival, or a bidding war best left to rivals?

As the Blake Coleman era ends with his trade to the Minnesota Wild, only Mikael Backlund remains from Calgary’s thrilling 2022 playoff run. Reflecting on rapid roster turnover, we highlight key trades like the blockbuster that brought Jonathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weegar, and ask how quickly fortunes shift in the NHL. The episode also features official opponent jersey power rankings for the 2025-26 season, ranking iconic looks from teams like the Utah Mammoth and Montreal Canadiens.

  1. If Calgary did acquire Wright the very first thing required would be for someone in the locker room to beat the living bejesus out of him just to set the tone.
    Rinse and repeat as required.

  2. Sort of off-topic… but i'm not a fan of the LA Kings black/silver jersey and also not a fan of their logo. Their logo has the old tired font with trailing lines, weak small city text, small insignificant crown and a lot of empty space inside the logo. And the shape of the logo reminds me of the the car company Chevy logo. Even their other logo with the all caps LA seperated from the crown looks odd and boring.

I really hoped they went back to the retro gold and royal purple design with the crown as their logo. Its simple, unique and really recognizable and, in my opinion, so much better than the boring "chevy" logo

  3. Wright seems like a bad attitude type. He could just be getting traded again in a few seasons if he's still struggling.

    I wouldn't give anything more than Zary + a 2028 2nd.

  4. The very very best & final offer should be Zary, the 2027 & 2028 Vegas & Colorado 2nds & thats it. If they dont want the 2nds they can have Sharangovich & Ohrman or Stromgren. Sharangovich has negative value so doubt he would be a Seattle consideration. If Montreal want to give more let them.

  5. This is exactly the type of deal the Flames should go for. They could have decent depth down the middle: Wright, Reschny, Stockselius, Hextall? Potter feels more like a winger then a Centre to me but throw him in there as well.

  6. Shane Wright would learn from Backlund and Frost and Strome all very good with young guys.He was a star player in Junior made the OHL as a 15 year old. Was rated 1st overall his draft year.He is 22 start on the 4th line and slowly move him up the line up. He may stop at 2 he maybe is a first line guy time will tell.

  7. Slaf almost had as many points last year as Wright does in his career at this point. For a guy who said he deserved to go 1st overall he isnt putting up much of a competition in stats terms. Needs an attitude adjustment indefinetly but an opposing canadian market. Who has a history of beating the team who he believes screwed him (montreal) may be somewhere he would embrace. For the right cost it would be worth Calgarys time. no more than Zary a 2nd and maybe like Mews?

  8. If Zary is on the block already, and is only 24 and a former first-round pick also, the transaction could make sense. We don't have another 1st round pick in 2027 however, so we won't be trading that. If you could offer a second and a respectable prospect in the deal, I'm curious if it would pique Seattle's interest or not. Say it was William Stromgren who has talent, but probably isn't part of our long-term plans anyway. I'm sure there are probably better offers out there, but then again Wright's stock value has dropped rapidly, so kicking tires would be worth it. If the price is really too high, of course you don't pull the trigger. But it could be lower than people think, and if so we should at least find out. The locker room will make sure there are no further attitude issues if that's indeed still a problem.

  9. Nope dont need him. Gave off Lindros vibes with his attitude. Dont need that tainting the team. If they were to get him, he would 100% need a attitude adjustment real quick. Tell him he can learn to smarten up or conny is gonna call regher and phaneuf and make him do dump and chases to the corners with them 😅

  10. I can confirm Craig has had no interest in acquiring Shane Wright.
Next years draft is loaded with centerman and the Flames can definitely land one of them.

We need one more year, one more draft a top pick maybe win the lottery for our new building.

  11. Zary and Wright could both use new changes of scenery. I dont think its realistic to expect a one for one swap, but Zary and a second and third round pick? I don't think Wright holds all that much value to be honest but it could be worth gambling on him for the right price.
