On the bright side, no one can fault the Rick Astley trade for Charlie O’Connor. Yes, both pass the eye test and are strikingly similar in many ways, but Charlie’s underlying metrics have always been better and that’s why we’re never gonna give him up.
I dont get how they were able to unless cutter is accepting way under getting rid of kreider and guys like that will deplete their depth so doing that to free money not smart
I'm happy the Ducks signed him. They Flyers can do so much more without having their hands tied like that. Using available cap space and draft capital for other strategic roster upgrades instead.
I wouldn't call this a failure, just a disappointment. I will call this a failure if there is no pivot or other move. Yes, Leo fit their need which is the reason why the Flyers did what they did to try and land him, but as was said in this episode, offer sheets are normally met by the team the player is currently on. I don't know if this would be a trade or a next offseason thing, but the Flyers showed aggressiveness in trying to get Leo…don't stop there simply because this did not work out. The Flyers put up their "bat signal" that they are open for business…gotta land that next big fish.

I never thought Anaheim wouldn't match he was far too important a player to their team. But that being said, Danny has to find a 1C either thru the draft or trade. It's absolutely killing our development of the rebuild, and this team will never reach its ceiling .

This is why you must bottom out and draft that 1C. It's near impossible to get one otherwise. The Flyers refused to do it so here we are stuck in purgatory forever. Without that 1-2C this team has zero chance of winning. This is why a segment was pissed we tried to win while rebuilding. Hiring Torts to whip them to death to make them respectable was the biggest mistake we could have made
in all honesty this fundamentally changed the market which will make it harder on GMs which could loosen up more deals in the future
While I don’t view the Carlsson move as a failure, I absolutely view this summer as a complete failure. Briere botched the Bourque trade, failed to get anything for Risto, failed to upgrade the power play, forward group and defense. Just running it back with the same team. Don’t give me “they made the playoffs and won a round.” It took a miracle for them to make the playoffs and they got matched up against the only team they could beat. Look what happened when they played an actual good playoff team, how far away they are from contention.
Not a Flyers fan but it seemed pretty obvious they were gonna match. Paying 18M for Leo might hurt them in the short term but not having Carlsson at all would be much more debilitating. He's a franchise 1C and I could see the Ducks taking a step back next season but with the salary cap going up and the Ducks ability to seemingly target the right players be it in the draft or via free agency/trade I think they will be fine in the long term.

This could be a blessing in disguise. We now have more Cap flexibility and Danny set a league wide standard, the Flyers are seriously open for business. Agents on line 1, 2, 3 🤔
Technically our “rebuild” is over. We have no 1D or 1C. We just tried to offer sheet a player by overpaying him 3mil of what his ask was. Doesn’t that prove how important top 3 picks are? Doesn’t that also prove our rebuild was a failure? Ducks, Sharks, Canadians & Blackhawks made sure to draft their 1C & 1D’s before wingers. Where are we getting a 1D or 1C now? There are delusional fans that think McDavid is coming here. He will go to a team that has a chance to win the cup. The Flyers are not close enough.
Now there will be teams that punish the Flyers bc of the offer sheet. That will make trades harder. Seattle needs to make a big move. Beniers would be ideal, but the Kracken just traded for his friend. We should be trading for Wright a cheaper option w/ a high ceiling & could become a 1C. His NHL stock slipped bc of his cockiness. Flyers love cocky players just like Taco. Plus if Taco is such a great coach Wright for sure would eventually become the 1C he was projected to be. Thomas will cost Martone. Maybe Ottawa would take TK & Risto for Cozens.
No matter what, the offer sheet was an indication that our rebuild has failed. It also proves the only way to really get a 1C is by drafting them or completely over paying them. Other teams around us got better this summer. I doubt the Flyers will make the playoffs next year, but they will draft higher than 21, maybe 16. Again, no bonafide 1C or 1D within reach.
Also, Cutter was going to get 10-12mil from ANA, thanks to the Flyers offer sheet, he will now be making a lot more $. So the Flyers are the joke again. The saddest part is how many fans are willing to accept being mediocre.
Be patient !!!!! nurture our guys for the future. Boy i hate to hear that after 51 years.

I started watching this pod in 2023. Back then I was told we can’t good players cuz of dead cap $. But just wait until the summer of 26 they said. Then we will be competitive they said

I don´t mind Comcast per say, but them giving the Flyers alumni full control of the organization to the extent where it´s becoming a boys club where the only ones who get to join are either former Flyers or people they know and can vouch for is still the biggest issue and what´s been holding them back for ages.
