Peyton Krebs’ future is CLOUDED with the Buffalo Sabres as he files for arbitration

Peyton Krebs has filed for arbitration with the Buffalo Sabres as a restricted free agent, setting up a very interesting dilemma for the Sabres. Krebs has turned into a very useful player that is versatile enough to play on the top line and the fourth line, playing center or wing. But what is Krebs’ role going forward? The Sabres are loaded with fourth line centers already, and you probably want better for Tage Thompson’s top line winger, so where does he fit? Without a real need for him, and a career season for Krebs, the cost to keep him could be just too much to bear. Jack Drury, a comparable to Krebs in the NHL, just signed for five years, $4.5 million per year. If Krebs commands that sort of price, the Sabres should look for a trade or settle for a short term deal in arbitration.

If Krebs is here still, where will he play in 2026-27 with the Sabres having so many bodies up front? And we figure out what the proper level of smoke is on Patrick Kane coming home to Buffalo. It sounds like there’s at least a possibility, and there is some merit to the idea, outside of ‘it would be cool to see Kane play here.’

  1. They haven't signed anyone. No Tuck replacement type. The man was your best penalty killer and scored 30 plus goals 3 out of 5 seasons here in Buffalo. Who are you replacements for that production

  2. He's under appreciated. !st , 4th line always played good and stood up for his teamated. Lindy loves him. I think he's improving. Sad if they let him go.

  3. If we lose a glue guy like Krebs, on top of Tuch and Byram… although I do like how the defense is shaping up as a 6 man unit… I just don’t see us making the playoffs.

  4. Patrick Kane would be a great addition. We need help on the power play and he'd be a great veteran winner to help all these young forwards we have on our roster.

  5. i think krebs an underrated player. the fact that he was playing on a line with tage and tuch at one point proves that he’s clearly talented. i think he’s a really versatile player which isn’t always that easy to find and also in his end of season interview he talked about having to switch lines throughout the season and play several different roles and his answer was very much that he is a team player and he’ll do whatever to help the team win and i think it’s admirable for a player to be willing to get out of their comfort zone if it’s what the team needs.

  6. The team is starting to look much different, especially if Krebs leaves. We need somebody at forward. I would rather see a bigger player than Kane, we "replaced" Tuch with Helenius and Ostlund
but they arent known for physical play.

  7. Trade Norris + some prospect(s)/picks for Larkin. Stevy Y needs to get out of that thing, sweeten it up to where he can't say no, Sabres have the assets. They could even throw Ellis in with Norris. Or give Stevy Y a goodie bundle. Norris + Something + Power + pick(s) for Larkin + Edvinsson.
Grab Kane. Larkin is your Tuck replacement… Kane repiaces Norris. Thompson – Larkin – Kane, Doan – Hellenius – Benson, Zucker – Kulich – Quinn… This team could still compete for a deep playoff run while maintaining a deep prospect pool. Tuch walking in 26 is like Marner walking in 25 for TOR but slightly less dramatic. Sabres have a little more depth than TOR but you guys got to understand losing Tuch is a major step back. It's Marner 2.0. Larkin is the ONLY option available to compensate the loss of Tuch. Name me a better option… You can't. Losing Byrum, Tuch, Lord 🙏 K-Ring, Greenway was a system shock… Not gonna lie, I was depressed. But this new blue line might actually be balls. Like BIG BALLZ. And I'm actually starting to think that this Morozov guy might be a total F-ing sleeper. If this team can go to the 2nd round again or deeper, McDavid will most likely be in play in 2027… Remember the whole 14 year no playoff drought started around when the Sabres tried to tank the for McDavid in the draft. Now this thing could come full circle to where they compete to get McDavid as a UFA to go win a cup in 28 or 29… Oh yeah and sign Krebs… He's a baller 👍 🏒 💯 ⚔️

  8. 18:51 "If you envision him being on the top line again, and putting up another 40-pt season….." I can finish that for you. A top line 40-point player SUCKS.
