Yo, Chris Peters, you’re saying “like” way too much, bro.
carlsson and zegras was buddies in anaheim, verbeek ruined that with a poor trade.
The D line was super rough last year with all those players… No need to bring back Trouba Gudas and John Carlson for the money. May as well try something else.
I want him so bad in Philly! Trying not to get ahead of myself. That might be my next Jersey and I haven't bought one in years!
Chris I have a very similar story about the World Series. I’m a huge Twins fan and I was in The Air Force stationed in Texas. I was in my Dorm Room alone in 1991 when we beat Atlanta. I was the only one screaming like a Lunatic. Unfortunately it’s the last Championship I’ve had. Vikings Fan, Sharks Fan, Twins Fan and Timberwolves Fan.
The problem with saying “pay your guys early” is now that the players will say no I’ll wait to see if I can more via offer sheet
They aren’t matching. They’re taking the picks and going another way.
As a ducks fan who listens to every show, I always wish for more ducks talk. Now I wish I was just happy with the bit of air time we got…
I found this pod during your draft coverage. Big fan of this group so far.
personally speaking, i get why ppl wanna match but actually use some brain and think about it for longer then just who it is, if u have to be mid for his entire 5 year contract, i think that says something to why u shouldnt do it, there blue line is the worst in the league or top 5 worst, its pretty embarssing. not to mention u having to move killorn, krieder, vatrano just to be able to lock up cutter and sennecke when hes up, ur just stick is mid to bad the entire time, why do that when u can lose lea it hurts but u save all that money go out get a center with those picks u have sign some dman or use those picks to get dman, and then be able to lock up cutter and sennecke to a proper deal and not create this weird if hes getting 18 im deserving of this, on the team, ik cutter isnt taking less then 12 now, and if sennecke gets better then this year hes gonna want around the same ur gonna lose one if u keep leo
Love the podcast, but it feels crazy to say that a guy who had 60 points in his D minus one would challenge McKenna if he were in this year‘s class. McKenna had double his points in his D minus one. I know there’s premium position and two way capabilities there but that’s crazy to me.
Toronto was squeezed by the cap freeze. Not defending their mistakes, but they couldn't predict a global pandemic.
I have no problem with teams overpaying for stars. It's worse when they pay too much for middle-tier guys with average past performance. That's what cripples cap management.
Pat Verbeek grew up under Lou Lams in the NHL. He thinks hardball is the right way to win.
Byfield has been a disappointment as a #2 pick. Great tools, ordinary skills.
Weird that Corey would scoff and call other people stupid in his usual supercilious way when the last time a high profile offer sheet was attempted (Aho), the Hurricanes offer sheeted Kotkaniemi the very next year in a retaliatory move.
So I don't think Friedman, who knows way more than any of these guys who just guess about 17 year olds for a living (with mixed results at best), is off the mark at all.
This podcast just reminded me why I cancelled the Athletic years ago
