27. I questioned Chayka's NHL re-hire. At this juncture, I feel better about him. He & Mats have closely examined the team. What was determined was the team had become slow, less skilled & less physical. Not fast enough to get in on the forecheck to disrupt opposing D on retrievals. The D, absent Tanev, were big, but guys like Carlo & Benoit not skilled enough to make clean plays in all zones. They couldn't break the puck out effectively. They often failed to get pucks up to the forwards, or participate on offence. The moves that have been made have changed that imo. Raddysh & Andrae are very good on retrievals & make quality passes in all 3 zones. They are adept at breaking the puck out & play quality D in gapping up, while being solid in the D-zone. Raddysh played top pair mins all last season & was +21 against top opposition. Chayka's trade & UFA forward acquisitions have definitively improved the bottom 6 in terms of speed, physicality, defensive reliability & PK acumen. Bob is likely 'good Bob'.
