  1. Chayka’s just trying to look like he’s doing something. An influx of random players do not a team make. Doesn’t mean he knows what he’s doing. Without a team culture, identity and chemistry it’s just a recipe for mediocrity and failure.

  2. This is ridiculous and will totally obfuscate the market…they should lower max AAV to at least 15% of the cap to create more balance, otherwise the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. 3rd and 4th liners deserve some of that money too…blocking shots and killing penalties isn't exactly a luxury…

Leafs just went through this experiment I don't care how much the cap goes up. There just isn't enough cap space for players to build a team when one guy makes 17-20 percent of the cap! There's 23 other players!!

  3. I love our prime minister of defence Samo Hlavaj, he's always great for us, Slovaks, and as Adam love to say, he's really great guy – hope you guys will love him too!!

  4. The leafs need to develop a puck moving defenseman offensive defenseman TWD dangler grinder and for the past few years there's been a new player type a defensive forward that plays only on the fourth line I mean sure been a thing for years but hasn't been labeled as such until recently because of the 11-7 it has invented a new player type the idea of a defensive forward which is a defensive defenseman playing on the fourth line and TWD on fourth and third line and puck moving defenseman offensive defenseman from third to first line

  5. i love the Samuel Hlavaj addition, you need goalie depth he is going to be a RFA at the end of this contract, you need someone who can play even if its just AHL games, if Bobrovsky goes down with a injury or if Stolarz or should i say when he goes down with injury you will need to call someone up, all you had in the org was Artur Akhtyamov i still think he is the first call up but what happens if heaven forbid Bobrovsky and Stolarz goes down with a injury at the same time what are you going to do? run Akhtyamov with a ebug or have to overpay for some teams 4th goalie to play, its a depth move of someone who is only just turned 25 like a month ago or so which is still young for a goalie, might have some upside now if thats a backup or like a tandem guy that remains to be seen but i like it.

  6. Ecstatic to see Vinni remain with the team. A stabilizing force for the Marlies young guns & true leader on the team. Excited to welcome the other three to the Marlies family and especially Hlavaj as Artie is going to need some support with the sizeable loss of Hildeby.

  7. maybe im a bit uneducated on the subject but im kinda disapointed the leafs signed so many guys to fill the spots in the nhl…..sooooo what we never graduate a marlie? bo and quillan waste there time in the ahl never gets a real shot? just a few fillin days till there past there prime 🙁

  8. Samuel Hlavaj played for my hometown Sherbrooke Phoenix in the QMJHL, and he was the most fun goalie to watch I have seen throughout the years. He is a raw and unconventional, reaction-based goaltender. He has the butterfly basis but quickly shifts to a chaotic style on higher-danger shots. He throws himself into shots rather than just waiting for the puck to hit him, and ends up sprawled out or sitting flat on the ice to stop pucks in desperation situations a bit too frequently.

He sometimes may look like a bit of scrambler who's technique is unrefined, and he gives up a few more rebounds than you'd like, but he was extremely effective in Sherbrooke because he was supported by a strong defensive core that cleared the front of the net and handled all of those rebounds. But he's a big guy who covers up a lot, and has the "squareness" of Jakub Dobes, combined with the agressive style of a Tim Thomas or Jonathan Quick. Some of his teammates told me that when he's on top of his game, he is virtually unbeatable and nearly impossible for shooters to read; however, when he is off, things can get ugly very quickly and his sense of timing can become his worst enemy.

He remains a very interesting project, and even as a Habs fan, I hope he finds success in the Leafs organization. If they can help him take the next step in his development by working on his anticipation and limiting how often he ends up on his knees or lying on the ice, I think he could surprise people and find his way to the NHL, as he certainly has the physical build and athleticism to reach that level.

  9. Hlavaj is a sneaky good signing. He was a beast in every international tournament. Love that for the Leafs depth after the hildebiatch trade.

The Iowa wild… sucked. Lets just call it what it is.

  10. Honestly….this might not work but man this guy is trying, and alot of it seems pretty good. Gotta give him credit chyka is putting in work and a situation that looked like a complete disaster with no optimism that next year's team would even be fun to watch has quickly become the opposite
