What's with hockey guys and the word "obviously"? It's not always obvious. Stop it!!
I don't believe Werenski will stay at all. CBJ and him are doing PR to ease the pain later and also try and reset the market. To which, what the Leafs could do I suppose is trade Knies for Harley – then trade Harley for Werenski. That's if Dallas wants to get another winger for their about to lose Robertson. Or even Knies for Harley by itself, both players maybe feeling slighted.
I think when a player goes to management and says he's not sure he is gonna walk in free agency or not, him being upset they are coming to him with trade requests seems naive.

49:50 I'm not really a fan of offer sheets but I feel like NJ is being made out like the bad guy when Utah could've done the trade at the draft or of they wanted the player they could've signed him themselves before the offer sheet. And always remember the player doesn't have to sign. GM have to stop ignoring their RFAs and get those done.
They couldn't get a deal done, so Werenski dug deep and found a change of heart and loves to play in Columbus again!
My only issue with the no trade stuff is that on the players end they dont have to stick with their end of the contract…. in what world do we have contracts where the teams aren't allowed to trade a player bc the player has protection, but the players can demand a trade any time they want?
With the additions of McKenna, Rad, and Bob…the Leafs are absolutely improved if even slightly in all three departments. Forward, defense and goal. By how much is for debate. But they absolutely have improved.

Here has been something that’s been nagging me ever since the Dallas Columbus deal going south hit the news. Was there a situation where the leafs could have jumped in and made a three way deal with the blue jackets and stars. We get Werenski (reports say we were on his trade list so he probably doesn’t veto it), Columbus gets the assets that Dallas offered them. In my mind I’m offering Dallas Rielly 50% retained, rights to Robertson, Ben Danford, Colorados 1st rounder and a 2nd rounder. In that situation Dallas is getting a 30-60 point top 4 left D, a Forward who is related to a player you want to resign and who is probably better than what the leafs get out of him, a good prospect, and two picks, and enough cap space that you can now sign Jason Robertson straight up.
Maybe it’s just me being a delusional leafs fan, but I feel like given the circumstances, all 3 teams leave that room feeling like they got a good deal.
I think CJ is being disingenuous about having the teams live up to the NTC/NMC. They are, You can't trade a player with one. the issue is when a players asks for a trade, that is when people think there needs to be changes. A player asking a for a trade should release both parties from the clause. No "i'll only accept a trade to X or Y" The clause will remain active as long as the player doesn't approach the team for a trade, thats the team living with it. its not wrong to think that a player asking for a trade when they have an NTC/NMC should have that NTC/NMC voided to facilitate a deal.
Ofcourse cbj wouldnt like the return… van probably didnt like the return for hughes either. Thats how this works.

Players have always been expendable commodities, but teams maybe need to rethink how much they are showing it lately. Dallas is now going to pay 85 million dollars to a 24 year old they just told they'd like to replace.
I’ve never seen a more forced attempted exit from the insiders. Frank, Elliotte, LeBrun, Weekes… all these guys were dying for it to happen and just kept throwing things out there. Now with Dreger’s complete lie about Ovechkin, it’s been a bad week for the big guys in the hockey news world.
How would Willy enjoy Columbus? Then trade for Tom Wilson using our first from Colorado. He would be perfect with Mathews and McKenna. Knies with JT and Cowen. The Capitals just obtained another 2 RWers and have alot of big bodies.
If a player has a no move contact and they ask for a trade then they should lose their no move status.
