The NJ Devils have Signed Goaltender David Rittich. After the recent Jakob Markstrom trade the Devils had a tandem of Nico Daws and Jake Allen and had a feeling the Devils may look to make another move in net.
There was trade rumors of Winnipeg Jets Connor Hellebuyck or Toronto Maple Leafs Anthony Stolarz, but the Devils found their free agent Goaltender in David Rittich.
Question becomes is it better to go for a legit number 1 goalie or have 3 backup goaltenders going into next season.

It is an insecure bandage just in case an injury happens
Now sonny got a offense player like Patrick and a defender please
I have confidence you could give jake whatever he’s comfortable with..say 35 games.
Daws has done two seasons with 20-ish games. Lets say you give Nico 25-30 games.
That leaves dave with 20-25 games.
I think they’re capable with that work load and for that price.
It’s just hedging your bets and doing the most with the cap/analytics to make an informed decision.
I don’t personally think spending 6-8+ million on a goalie is a smart use of cap, especially on this team.
the biggest thing, for me, is how the defense and top 6 shape up, now.
Transitional signing, to get us through to the Next Big One?
I'm thinking Allen starting in 35 games, Rittich in 30 games, and Daws in 19 games.
Daws will probably play in Utica for most (or at least the majority) of the season.
3rd string signing for utica as a safety net
I can't see all 3 of them on the NHL roster at the beginning of the season. One of them will be headed to the AHL and activated if the other gets hurt.
All 3 goalies cost less than one Markstrom and all had better stats than Marky last season. Did not think it would have been possible to move Markstrom without retaining salary. Bravo Sunny!
They absolutely had to move off Markstrom and this might be the most economical tandem in history. Goalies are finicky look at Carolina in the cup. So I’m ok for now, we will see
Devils still have the goaltender problem. Sunny also has the problem of a sub par coach. Keefe is not a motivator and should not be the NJ Devils coach.
This guy is a mediocre goalie making a mediocre salary. Markstrom was a mediocre goalie making an exorbitant salary.
After trading Jacob Markstrom to the Panthers and signing David Rittich, to a 1-year deal worth $1 million, the Devils will look to trade Brett Pesce, Jonas Siegethaler, Mikhail Yegorov, and a 2027 1st-rounder to the Blackhawks for Spencer Knight, trade Jake Allen, Seamus Casey, Shane Lachance, Cam Squires, and 2027 and 2028 2nd-rounders to the Maple Leafs for Anthony Stolarz and Tinus-Luc Koblar, trade Stefan Noesen, Dawson Mercer, Nico Daws, and a 2028 3rd-rounder to the Kings for Alex Laferriere, and sign James and Trevor van Riemsdyk to 3-year deals worth a combined $42 million.
