I can see why he worked out so well in Carolina. To not ask the question and leave it till the last year is the incompetent thing to do. Tough to ask, but he did, and when the player was unsure he comes up with a great deal and the player can make the choice.
Players come and go from teams all the time. We remember the ones that stick around though. Sakic stuck with the Nords/Avs through some tough times and he’s a legend. Lindross was too good to play for that team and they made a deal with the Flyers and Lindross is the poster for unrealized potential.
Duchene was unhappy with the same franchise for the same reason and he left. Mackinnon stuck around and is considered to be one of the best players in the game. Sakic won two cups and Mackinnon won 1 so far with the team that wasn’t good enough for Duchene and Lindross.
