  2. Weird signing for New Jersey. Not because he isn't a solid defensive player, but because they're potentially giving up a 2nd round pick for one year's worth of this player. This isn't a situation where at the end of this coming season, they'll have an RFA they can sign to multiple years if things work out. If he plays well, he'll be a UFA and some other team could easily out-bid them. So they're likely playing a 2nd for what will effectively be a stop gap for them and likely a 3rd line centre at best. Odd.
