2. Grown men get paid absolute fortunes to chase a ball up and down a park. Yet they still have to be told how to earn the money. Six African teams made it through. One, a small island in the Atlantic. They got through because of pride in their country, determination, a will to win and self respect. 19. Seems to me that the Scottish Press and to a lesser extent the supporters have an over inflated idea of where Scotland ranks in World football. Even in the so called halcyon days of Law or Dalglish or Souness, Scottish squads failed to get to the World Cup or if one did then it failed to get out of the group stage. The current squad is poor and I suspect Clarke has gone because another four years
    of managing Scotland would be no different to the previous seven.
    He has achieved more than any other Scotland manager and deserves credit for that…not criticism.
    And unless there is a whole bunch of Scottish football talent ready to emerge the next manager will do no better than Clarke and might well do worse.
    And if he was somewhat abrupt with the press from time to time so what!
    The press are quite happy to dish out insults but can't deal with it when a manager is short with them.
    Maybe the press need to collectively grow a pair.

34. The amount of foreign players in the Scottish and English leagues since the 1980's has had a bad effect on the national side. I remember The English top division being full of Scots and in the 60's a lot of the captains of the big clubs were Scots, Law, Man Utd, McKay, Spurs, McLintoch, Arsenal, Bremner, Leeds, Yeats, Liverpool and Moncur, Newcastle.
