The New Jersey Devils finished up day two of the NHL Draft in Buffalo yesterday.
The NJ Devils drafted six more players in Rounds 2 through 7 after a couple of Sunny Mehta trades to acquire an extra pick.
Many fans seem to be expressing their frustrating with the Devils moves thus far this offseason.
Is it justified?

Same team next year
Im sure they had to weigh potential choices of trading/making picks. So im sure this was their best option. Everyone should realize its stupid to make a big splash to appease the fanbase.
I fully expect there to be some thoughtful and informed decisions to add and subtract to the roster to improve it. (Within the confines of nmc)
I just hope keefe and mehta hashed out whatever the hell their playstyle is supposed to be. So whoever they do bring in fits in. Fitz Absolutely nuked whatever it was about that 22-23 team. Slow, boring, handcuffed.
For sure the Sunny era so far is a little disappointing. But I think he really will not be backed into a bad deal. Sunny is not boozeface an that's a good thing. Am I ready to buy season tickets? The answer is a HARD NO. But the mess that he was left with will not be fixed overnight. I think he can fix it but it will not be done quickly.
Can't wait to run back Noesen or Brown on a line with Bratt and Jack 🤣. I really want to believe that Sunny gets it done, but if not and if the team stays the same, then its another season punted away and Jack gets closer to wanting out
fans need to evaluate if we are part of the problem. getting and more toxic lately . teams like the canes never boo their own players, they never get toxic like this. we need to stand behind our team a little more and not feed into the chaos and media shit storm
Because of Fitz's incompetence, Sunny was put in a tough position where people will demand immediate change and want to see a different team overnight. I admit, I was guilty of this and was disappointed the night of the draft as I was hoping to see a trade for a top 6 winger and it didn't happen. But after looking at things objectively, building the prospect pool is a smart move because we need to prepare for the future as well as the present.
My question is: are the scouts we have the same ones who were here under Fitz? Because outside no brainer first overalls, our drafting was crap under Fitz.
Lastly, if Quinn extends with Minny long-term or for three years exactly, we need to get ready for Jack looking to join his brother wherever they both decide to go (hopefully it'll be here but who knows). And if Jack looks to leave, Luke will pout and want to follow him. Should that happen, Sunny is going to have to be really active and creative in the trading department to prepare for the worst. Going forward, drafting well is going to become more important than ever, as will making shrewd, smart moves on Sunny's part. I'm all for giving him the time he needs to fix this mess.
Last but not least, can we finally put Timo on the right side to see what he can do!? If he underwhelms another year at $8M, that's another headache Sunny will need to address, on top of the Marky -Kova-Hamilton NTC/NMC's.
Fitz post traumatic disorder? Great way to describe what we're all feeling lol. Fitz did so much damage after being handed a promising roster, from his stupid NTC/NMC's, to botching the Quinn signing , to the Marky extension…on top of his arrogance, all of it was too much.
I still blame the owners, not just Fitzgerald. They allowed Fitzgerald to destroy the team for years. Lets give Sunny a chance, he might surprise us in a good way.

I'm wondering if Robertson or Hellebuyck come here, I understand the frustration with fans about keeping picks but Fitz really screwed NJ over with bad drafting so restocking the pipeline could be beneficial for the future but the time to win is now.
I dont wanna see Sunny make a trade for the sake of making a trade, i want it to be the right trade,and if that comes at the last hour of the next trade freeze ,so be it
I'd be somewhat relieved if Sunny could build up the bottom six and add either DeBrincat or Marchenko.

I'm not a Devil's fan, but that was a great two hours of intelligent hockey talk, not like so many where the hosts say stupid things like the Leafs are going to get Bedard or Celebrini for a third draft pick in 2029. In some ways I see the Devils as a better version of the Seattle Kraken, a team that has been stuck in the middle. Three playoff rounds in 10 years with a lot of low finishes. Hughes is great when not injured, Hischier is just a low-middling #1 overall, Mercer has regressed, Timo is nowhere as good as he was with the Sharks, defense and goaltending iffy. New GM has lots of work to do.
Minn has a better chance to win the title in 2 years because he would be on that team. If he signed with the Devils, the Devils would have a better chance than Minn.

My opinion is: Yeah Fitz didn't get it done obviously,, but he is not thee!! reason for the failure.. I hate how he handled the whole goalie debacle, And he like all of us we're fooled by the Schmid run…But on paper he built a team that was suppose to be a real contender, and created an atmosphere that players wanted to come and be a part of. We all thought so, the analysts on TV and radio all put us there as a serious contender. But the players did not get it done. A super star that can't stay heathy is a {Hughes} disappointment. A head coach who was fired for not getting his team to the show, and had a horrible first season with us, Wow…What can you say to that. And now all of a sudden it seems big name player don't even have us on their list anymore…. example Brady and Dylan Larkin,,Which shows behind the scenes no one thinks this team is going anywhere anytime soon….So we are definitely still in for some more serious disappointment. In my opinion Sunny is gonna have to find a way to get us their with out the big names on the list, And find us big hungry guys who can flat out play and play against Florida and Carolina and spend the money on defense just like Lou Lamoriello did in the 90's with a bunch of no names who became legends…….enough with the finesse little guys…….Lets Go Devils…..
