What did the Philadelphia Flyers EmphaSIZE with Maksim Sokolovskii & the 2026 NHL Draft Class?

1. No matter who the Flyers took, Russ was always going to complain. Been listening to his drivel for years. Best thing to do is just shake your head and laugh at Russ!

2. I remember the “high floor” of German Rubstov. I’ll take the high ceiling on draft day.

3. I am right with Russ. Flyers have worst power play for 5 of last 6 years and have no urgency to fix it. Last year it was Carter Amico in 2nd round (another big D who can't score or play PP) and this year its Sokolovskii. They just can't help themselves. They really need an intervention.

I was extremely disappointed with Friday's draft day first round draft choice. I was So encouraged with the hiring of Danny Briere in May of 23. However with the hiring of Rick Tocchet, a Coach who doesn't insist or appreciate the fast transition game, tells the Flyers fan their foundations is motivated by the broad street bully mentality.

7. This is easily the worst Flyers draft since i think it was 2013. Sam Morin and no one else except we were able to cut a couple contracts. And the the Cal Makar. Hendricks I think went to Dallas who I really wanted. Then we traded Brayden Shen for 2 first round picks and took Frost and wanted the other 😢😢😢😢

8. The 2 round pick and the rest of the draft was even worse. Good chance the only player that ever makes the team is Sokolovskii And only cause their gonna force him Sam Morin style. Try and make themselves not look as stupid 😢😢😢Danny needs to go before this gets worse. The only good moves he makes are just to obvious to pass up (Martone. Zegras. michkov. Tippet). The rest is mind boggling how they let one person make these important decisions

9. Listke. Is a no way defenseman. He terrible. His first half of the season he wasn’t even ranked to get drafted. Sucks on defense and average on offense for a kid

22. I was definitely thinking they would grab Lin and surprised they didn’t but as far as Danny saying they had Sofolofskii at 21 there is not a gm in sports that is going to tell you the truth when that question is posed. My guess is they wanted Command, Savonto or Morozov

23. Russ, don’t get yourself all worked up over goalie rankings we just watched undrafted Brandon Bussie beat the “highly touted” world junior gold medal winner Carter Hart. Even if they are a clear cut first round pick it’s still not a guarantee it will work out see Rick Depietro

26. Russ is correct. Flyers draft grades are way off base. Drafting 2nd/3rd tier guys in first round makes it hard to win cups. Especially when Philly not high on free agents lists. Like the Brek kid though

27. I would have taken Lin all day every day. Yes, he is a smaller defenseman, but he is what the flyers are going to need in the future a talented offensive defenseman who can Quaterback a powerplay. I know they worry about size on the blue line, but this guy is 3 years away chances are York would be gone by the time Lin would be ready. I absolutely hate taking a leap on a guy whose upside is a steady Eddie defenseman terrible decision by Danny.

30. I was livid at last year’s draft. This year I’m just resigned to it. The Flyers can’t draft, and if you’re not a destination for UFA or these NMC trade guys wanting out, you’re never going to truly contend. Sokolovskii might have been an exciting pick in 1986. The NHL game isn’t played that way anymore. He’ll sit in the penalty box or end up concussed.

31. Thanks Rachel and Russ. Great analysis. I was disappointed with the emphasis on size. But, it is what it is. Carolina might be putting Kotkaniemi on the market. He's a center with some upside. Yes, he might be a reclamation project, but if you could improve on his consistency and face offs, he might be a number 2 option. Your thoughts?
