The NHL Draft has come and gone, but one of the biggest offseason storylines remains unresolved: Jason Robertson is still without a new contract, and the trade rumors refuse to die.
The DLLS Stars crew breaks down where things stand between Robertson and the Dallas Stars, why a deal still hasn’t been reached, and what the prolonged silence could mean for the future of one of the franchise’s biggest stars. Is Jim Nill simply waiting for the right moment, or is there more happening behind the scenes than fans realize?
Trade him. He is butt fvcking the team. Not only has he now limited the returns bc its after the draft, he's expected the Stars to get rid of the 7 now players needing contracts, he expects them to get rid 3-4 current contract players. Over half the team. He clearly doesn't care about being on a competitive team. He clearly doesn't care about his current teammates. What about the older guys? He'll all but end their careers. It would close the Stars window for at min 2 years. He also doesn't care if they can compete if he leaves, else he would say hey, these are my teams, get the most you can for me. No. He'd rather them get almost nothing in return. He's a greedy, selfish pos.
As a Leafs fan, I would like to see RoBo go out for Werenski, and then see a Knies ( your left winger ) for Harley/Bourque trade worked out. Just spit-balling.
Who is more replaceable? Proven stud Robo or soon to have no trade power Otter? Trade Otter
Just trade Bourque and Ilya to Chicago so you can keep Jason Robertson
Why can't Nill fill the difference of 1.5m for their homegrown franchise best player to 14m? That's a discount already as his market is 15m-17m. Nill is playing with fire, not Robo. Robo will leave if Dallas decides to cheap on their top player. Robo will file arbitration and then becomes UFA and Dallas gets an empty bag. In arbitration, Robo will get minimum 15m, presenting Kaprizov 17m and Tuch 10.5 as facts. Kaprizov numbers no better than Robo this year and career wise. Tuch is not even in Robo's level.
He clearly does not want to play in the nhl ever again
It’s a dangerous game. He could get offer sheeted and both lose 🤷🏼♀️
1st timer here….nice show
Anaheim has the cap space, they are contenders and have plenty of assets?!
So Robo says he wants to stay in Dallas. Dallas has offered him 12 million. Robo is asking for 14 million dollars. There are still some key players that need to be signed
With a 12 million offer I think Dallas has put all their cards on the table. They're not trying to bargain or low ball Robo.
So when Robo asks for $14 million. My question to Robo is. What about your teammates? What about winning?
When you break it all down this is just pure greed.
The guy can make $12 million for 8 years. Which is by anyone's measure filthy rich. Literally more money than you can spend in a lifetime. More than enough money to do anything you want to do or to make any amount of additional money that you want to make.
Him holding out for 14 says to me I don't care how many players we lose and I don't care if we are competitive in the coming years as long as I get my extra $2 million dollars a year.
Ugh… big Robo fan. Love his story but at a point this starts to get a bit maddening. If you want to stay then you move a little and help solve the problem.
Does he want to get hugely paid or win a SC? The Panthers players got very good contracts and two cups by distributing the wealth.
If he doesn't want to play ball then trade him so you don’t miss out and get nothing
If you got rid of Tyler and it’s $9.8 million contract and you could fit them under the cap
Just let him sit out the entire season and then when the cap goes up next year and you ditch that boat anchor of 9.8 million for Tyler S then you could sign them
It's crazy because he says he wants to play. He likes Dallas and wants to win in Dallas if you want to win. I mean you already just made 7 million for 3 years. Why not go for like 9.5 or 10 flat? You know that way you allow the team to get in some better players around you, especially on that left wing. Give you some help, so where you got a good chance of actually winning the cup… So when players say they really want to win a cup I don't see it because if you did you do what other players did across the league and take less money to get better players around you. But it's all about the money so it is what it is. I can't blame them but damn it sucks cuz I'm a big Robo fan… Over a point per game player is really hard to replace
Offer him a one year deal for 9 and let him sit until he accepts.
At this point I would take a Luca type deal for him. They tried to give him what he wants and he said no. He's from California so send him back to California for a half eaten ham sandwich.
How much of this do we think is Robo vs his camp? To be honest I’m shocked that he would be greedy
To have even a remote chance for the Cup, (Panthers), stars need team toughness, robo is great, not tuff. Trade him
Luds, don't even put that awful Vegas juju into the universe. I'd have to quit hockey if Robo ended up there.
If 120m is what Robo is looking for, then the deadline is September 26th, when 8 year deals can no longer be signed.
1 year x 8million to bridge the gap on Seguin's deal, giving Dallas negotiation rights for his UFA deal that can be inked at any time.
Move Lyubuskin.
Get Bourque a bridge deal with the with the new cap space.
Beat the deadline and ink an 8yr x 14m deal.
Profit!
It seems like all the other teams r getting better & we're sitting around waiting on Robo.
All roads lead back to Tyler Seguin and his buyout-proof boat anchor contract. He needs to sit out the whole season on SELTIR. He still gets his last season paid in full. Shea Weber, Carey Price and Alex Pietrangelo have all done it. The league won't even bat an eye.
Lost all respect for Robertson if he turned down 12 in Dallas. McDavid took less money to help the team. If you just want the bag go to Seattle. WTF am I missing here?
I think its starting to make sense why Guerin did not add him to the roster for USA
Its character
nill should play hardball (like he should have been done with Harley) cause nill can make him play this yea with us and next year robo can only sign a 6 year contract with someone else.
Vegas would make a good trade partners. Barashev/ Hertl/Howden would bring what Dallas needs for value. All these guys are older but are winners. $14.25 still around what Robo is asking but this fills out three spots and likely no need for Benn.
You want 14-15 mil per year, better go some where else.
Has anyone mentioned that Tyler Seguin becomes a UFA after next season and he's making $9.85 million AAV on the last year of his contract. Maybe they can sign Robo to a 1 year deal at $12 to $12.5 million and then possibly resign Tyler Seguin to a 2 yr $3.5 million AAV after next season. That would free up approximately a little over $6 million plus the Cap increase to resign Robo to a long term contract. Put Seguin on a Duchene type of contract. Just my thoughts!
If you want him pay him the extra 2M AAV it’s small potatoes. If you don’t want him let him go. This is killing the relationship unnecessarily .
I’ve watched numerous episodes where the three of you have talked about this problem and never heard you roast Nill like he deserves. He’s completely mismanaged the cap and created this issue.
What was San Jose's offer to the Stars for ROBO???
