The Boston Bruins made a trade during day two of the 2026 NHL Draft! The Bruins traded Fabian Lysell to the Colorado Avalanche for Ivan Ivan. In this video I look at Lysell’s NHL and AHL career so far with the Bruins and Providence Bruins. I do the same for Ivan’s NHL and AHL career so far with the Avalanche and the Colorado Eagles. I also talk about where I think Ivan Ivan will fit into next years Boston Bruins roster and give my thoughts on Fabian Lysell’s development in the Bruins organization. Personally I think it is time forit was time for Lysell to go though it may end up biting Sweeny in the butt. I disagree to a point, can't win the Stanley Cup without a quality 4th line so you have to pay for that to a limit. At present I do agree give the kids a chance, Kastelic earns his money IMO, Kuraly and Jeannot not so much.
I think Sweeney got sick of answering questions about Lysell.
I don't think there is one person who thinks Don Sweeney can draft except Cam.

Sweeney has a good talent for giving players a chance elsewhere like Marchand. Bruins still need another star player after Marchy was let go. Pasta will burn out without adding another water carrier… but the Bruins are too cheap.
I was watching the draft when Boston picked Fabian Lysell. I did not like the pick then, and I still feel that way today. On the other hand, Ivan Ivan is a NHL 21 draft legend, and in reality I think it is a mistake that he went undrafted. Colorado signed him two years ago out of the CHL, proving that he became a better player DESPITE not being drafted. I think the ceiling is actually higher for Ivan Ivan in actual potential, as I don't think Lysell will ever reach his hypothetical potential. I think Boston wins this trade both today and in the long term.
Plus, Ivan Ivan is one of the best names in the NHL

Of course none of us know any of the behind-the-scenes or how a player does in practices, but it just seems like Lysell never got a fair shot in Boston. And I fully agree that the Bruins don't give their younger guys too many chances in the bigs to blossom.

Avs fan here. I was actually pretty gutted by this one. Ivan squared is an underrated guy. He's been one of those guys I've been pulling for that I thought could be a solid all around bottom six guy. I think you guys got a guy that will play a good game for Bruins hockey. His numbers may look underwhelming in the AHL, but honestly, I think that's because his game is actually a better fit for the NHL than it is the AHL, and I think he'll do better with more opportunity. The only thing that makes me feel ok about losing him is that the Bruins are my dad's team, so I'm happy he's going somewhere I like. Hope he does well for you guys, because he was never really given the chance in Denver.

If I remember right, the 2021 draft was the one where a lot of the kids that were getting drafted could not be scouted due to the pandemic. Lysell was always touted as having speed and a scoring touch, but his attitude was terrible from all accounts. He wasn't the kind of player willing to work on the other parts of his game, and in Boston that gets you nowhere. A change of scenery for both of these players is probably what they needed. I'm not at all heartbroken over this one, and I wish him the best of luck in Colorado. If he can get his head on straight, he may finally have an NHL job.
Bergeron and Marchand have broken the brains of the brain trust of the team. They want everyone to play like them. Not everyone is like that, so either draft players similar to that or work with what they do have.
