  1. Hoen and Cover (over and over) might not have been there in the 3rd round. Sorry SENS fans but you can't ask for big swings then get upset that they aren't the swings you meant. LOL. And let's stay focussed. Burakovsky. Focus your anger and confusion on THAT. Hearing their logic about picks is fun, but I want to hear the logic on Acquiring a $5.5M winger that CHI was reportedly thinking of buying out!!

  2. I’ve actually warmed up to the picks. But boys. Can you explain why the Sens couldn’t be the ones to be in on Peterka? Dorofeyev? McTavish? Dorofeyev contract extension was a little nuts so maybe not him, but why did we get all this draft capital not to trade it?

I listened to people when they said that the Burakovsky was the first move of a bigger acquisition. Now it’s not looking that way. I’m really thinking Staios is under the assumption Burakovsky can turn back the clock and be a legit top six player, which terrifies me.

Both the Ersson trade and the Burakovsky trades are gut punches. There’s not really a way around it. Those are both players that the old regime would trade for, just guys to fill the cap. Frankly, Ersson being traded for is mind boggling. We saw how problematic the goaltending last year was for the team and this is who we bring in? Even if he plays in the AHL, why’d we give up a 5th for a guy who the Leafs weren’t going to qualify?

  3. Why Ersson, terrible couple of seasons.
Then we go and get $5m Andre Burakowsky he had 28 goals… combined over 3 years. And not even retained why he is not a top 6 winger

  4. I'm not mad at the picks but it's a bit disappointing that they weren't traded… 9 mil left to sign a top 6 forward and a back up? I just don't understand that burakovsky deal… Completely ties his hands

  5. I was not impressed at all with Ersson and Burakovsky trades. Ersson is a terrible goalie whos save percentage gets worse every season and Burakovsky like you said bringing in a 5.5 mil player who absoliutely for sure wouldn't be a Top 6 on the Sens I have no idea why Staios got him is he going to be a replacement for a bottom 6 player who knows. The draft the guy we selected at 25th overall I have no clue who that is he has a crazy long name then at 32nd Jaxon Cover which I felt a little bit more confident about. But I mean alot of the trades that went down yesterday are questionable for sure

  6. So this is a weird one. Other than the trade for Eklund which I think was good value. A 9th overall pick, that is uncertain in terms of NHL roster value (several 9th overall picks never even become a good 3rd line player) for a former 7th overall pick that is a bonified top 6 talent is a good deal. I won't say Eklund is top tier talent even for a 2nd line but with more than 50 points twice in the NHL on a middling team (and not playing with Celebrini) he's certainly average 2nd line wing material at least and that's a good transaction. He also definitely has upside and the contract terms are great so, A+ for Staios on this one. As for everything else? I'm scratching my head. We went way off the board for those picks, you telling me we couldn't deal 25th overall for a better backup goalie and still pick this guy who wasn't even expected to go until like…40.picks later? Ersson, makes no sense. Burakovsky? What is that? Those two trades looks just like we cleaned up trash for other teams. I hope to be wrong here but yeah, I'm not feeling confident about these moves overall. The reality is, Staios may have tried and no one wanted to come here is my thought. And this was all he COULD get.

  7. The more things change the more they stay the same Andlauer mentioned cash over cap and almost every player we got is making less money than their cap are we run by the ghost of Melnyk

  8. I thought preston was going to Vancouver. But Novotny dropping. Vancouver gets a steal. I was really excited that Preston and Novotny was falling to Ottawa. I wanted Novotny so badly. But was perfectly OK w Preston…. then we didnt take him…. and I like Cover alot but Preston was still there. I was like OK here we go but…. also no. Seems about right for my wants for this team….😢

  9. So we turned a “huge hawl” in Brady leaving us into. Eklund. Yikes. So is the plan for this team to still play like FLA and CAR? Or are we going towards a smaller faster, skilled team now?

  10. I'm fine with the draft picks. Time will tell how good they are. But the trades are an absolute disaster. Especially getting Samuel Ersson as the backup? I really hope Reimer stays as the backup and Ersson was just brought in as the third goalie. Ully isn't the type to play back to back games alone…He needs to split the workload with a solid backup. Ersson is definitely not the guy for that role..😢

  11. A terrible day fellas. I will quote my best mate who’s a diehard Hawks fan:

“Genuinely, he’s been the worst player on our team for like 2 years”.

    Nuff said.

Add to that reaching to the heavens and back a couple of time and a goalie that’s about as useful as me and I’m feeling very, very worried about the future.

At least the Spence signing was decent I suppose.

  12. Bizarre. Sens are in a win now position and they didn’t trade 25 in a package for a top six, and used 25 and 32 to draft players projected to go much later and aren’t tradable either. Very disappointing.

  13. I sat and watched the whole 1st round, only to see the Sens grab two poor picks with some good players still on the board. This was disheartening and went to bed pissed off. If these picks don't pan out, then the GM should be held accountable and fired.

  14. You can sugar coat it all you want, but that was an awful draft. The Sens had two first rd picks & selected two 2nd rd picks that were listed on Tankathon 54th & 56th that they could have traded down to acquire. Just like other drafts the announcers were again stunned by Ottawa's selections. This town/team is so fucking obsessed with small & soft Swedes. They traded for 3 Swedes in the last few days & selected a Swede at 25th OA no one had that high. Maybe he turns into a player, but that's a huge maybe given this scouting staff have been wrong before a number of times.

I expect they will sign a Swede on July 1 too & it look like now they don't have room to sign Giroux which sucks, a very disappointing end to his career here if that turns out. The RedBlacks have been terrible to watch for yrs & we went through a lot of shit yrs watching the Sens, I'll be surprised if they make the playoffs they are just too soft.

  15. Trades and picks are fun to talk about until you sit back and digest how bad this team is going to be next year. The Red Wings are probably the only team Ottawa beats in the Atlantic.

  16. The Eklund move was a good one. Trading for Erson makes no sense and is actually stupid. Burakovsky also makes no sense, as our bottom 6 is fine and Burakovsky isn't a second line player, so why bring him in? The acquisition costs weren't insane, so why not add another top 6 winger like Peterka or MacTavish. Staios better have one more big move up his sleeve, and possibly two (winger AND a backup goalie)

  17. Lager Berg was a stupid pick, typical sens thinking that they’re a cup contending organization like Carolina, or Florida, or Vegas thinking that they can reach on prospect in the first round and properly develop them when their previous draft picks from years past haven’t even touched the nhl yet. Just a dumb move.

If it wasn’t for Jaxon Cover it would have been a BUST of a first round. Lucky he was a late gem and he’s going to be a very good prospect, going to Penn state where he will get good ice time and coaching, he’s going to be a great player. We need more draft picks like him
