Swede Relief: As Tkachuk Departs, Senators Acquire William Eklund

In this episode, we discuss the Brady Tkachuk and Steve Staios press conferences, where they both discussed the big deal. We break down the Sens acquiring William Eklund and two prospects for the 9th overall draft pick on Friday. Is Staios done dealing, or is there more to come? Mike Grier talks about why he traded Eklund. We talk about the NHL Draft and the possibility of free agent Connor Ingram filling the backup role in Ottawa. Former Senators head coach DJ Smith agrees to work alongside Mike Babcock in Edmonton. And last year’s Belleville head coaches, David Bell and Andrew Campbell, are both squared away with contracts for next season.

  1. Hi @SteveWarne, Loved the video clips from all sources! 🙂
Brady is building his brand. He gave up on being a legend in Ottawa (if we win the cup) but even if don't win, his jersey will never be retired and hang from the rafter!

Eklund is young so will fit well into the group and if he unlocks Zetterlund then we can have two 20+ goals scorers. If he has a great chemistry with Timmy then who knows what happens 🙂

  2. Trois-Rivières could be the kraft hockeyville choice as St-Boniface won and their arena is really small. It's habs territory here, so they choose the Sens… Sharks #9 is for a Defenceman as they should take Stenberg with their 2nd overall Pick. So that's why they traded Eklund to free a spot and getting an option to play with Sam Dickinson. Go Sens Go.

  3. As much as I trust Staios, I doubt he will be able to deal the 25th pick without including roster players and he might get fleeced. The deals around the league this past week have lowered the value of that pick. I wish Staios would've traded Tkachuk earlier following the trade request, to give himself more than a week to then trade those picks… At the same time, Tkachuk could've probably asked for a trade earlier to give the team more time to process it. With how secretive this front office is, nobody would've known. I hope Staios can surprise me again.
