There’s an expectation that the Buffalo Sabres will, or are at least trying to, trade their 4th overall pick before they’re on the clock in the 1st round on Friday night in Buffalo. However, if the Sabres stay and make the pick, there are tons of great ideas. Sebastian High of Locked On NHL Prospects joins the show for an in-depth look at the top guys likely to be available at #4, including small scrappy center Viggo Björck, top defense prospect Chase Reid, or maybe Swedish phenom Ivar Stenberg if he were to fall a couple of picks. Björck might be a Zach Benson clone. Reid “would fit like a glove” into the Sabres attack system on the blueline. Stenberg could be a legit superstar for the Sabres. And there are plenty of more names to talk about.

Plus, which star players available are worth trading the 4th pick for? Is Matthew Knies one of them? And also a look at who will be sitting there for the Sabres with the 20th pick in the 1st round, if they haven’t traded that pick too.

  8. The problem with Trading the fourth pick for an active player is that player acquired will probably gobble off a massive amount of cap space and with players still to resign we could be squeezed badly

  10. LOL, the Hawks were saying what these two are saying now. When KD finally realised he’s not getting Stenberg he went nuts and gave away the #4 to the Sabres. Now the same old chatter….. At least this will all end tomorrow. Stenberg putting on the Sharks teal on front of the Sabres crowd.

  12. In no way, shape or form would i deal OStlund for anything other than a proven NHL player and he would have to be special because that kid is going to be awesome.

  13. I'd just make a pick unless we can package it for a 1C. My preference is for Bjorck unless Stenberg falls but I wouldn't be too angry with who we pick unless we go way off the board.

  14. Take the 4th and maybe a 2nd and move up and take Steinberg. Is that his name? Maybe toss in a lower level prospect if need be. I mean, why not? When is the next time they draft 4? When they're actually good? I say, go for it and try to get that 2nd overalls. San Jose is willing to trade it supposedly. Its only 2 spots up. Cant be impossible. Right?

  17. It would be nice if we could get a good Winger to bring in because we just let goals walk out the door with Alex and Bynum period and somebody has to account for those points. And what are you going to do depend on a bunch of young players you're bringing up from rochester??

  18. And the reason why I think we need to bring in a superstar Winger because if you do not change the goalie we're going to be in the same position again next year if we're that lucky

  19. Bjork, Reid. Vancouver could take Malhotra 3rd because of the family connection. Then Reid would def be available. I sort of lean Bjork though. He's got Hellenius vibes. Knies actually makes a lot of sense however. Young, big, physical… Initially didn't like his -30 (+/-) but he's playing on one of the NHLs worst teams and is cashing around 30 goals. Plus a good contract. I'd personally be satisfied with Bjork, Reid or a flip-a-pick for Knies. For the 20th pick if they could somehow grab Alex Command or Adam Novotny… Lean a little stronger towards Novotny 👍 🏒 💯 ⚔️

  20. Buffalo is the home of the dominantor. McKenna, Stenberg and Malhotra will go 123. So you draft Reid or smitts or carels. Only smitts is maybe playoff ready right now so it's that or #4 gets you the best goalie in the league ready to go right now when you just won the division. Ya. It's worth talking about

  21. ONE trade I would consider for the Sabres to give up the #4 overall pick:
    1. Edmonton sends Connor McDavid to Buffalo (McDavid will be 30 in January, and it's almost a certainty that McDavid will NOT re-sign with the Oilers after his extension ends after the season). BUT it has to be a sign-and-trade deal for 7 or 8 years because I do NOT want McDavid fora 1 year rental only to have him become a UFA and sign with Toronto.
    2. Buffalo sends the following to Edmonton:
    a) the #4 overall pick
    b) Devon Levi (the Oilers need a goalie)
    c) the 3rd round pick we got from Washington in the Tuch trade

  23. I still don't understand letting Tuch walk for nothing. Sabres have 13mil+ in cap after signing Benson, etc… 10.5mil for Tuch. You still have a few mil leftover and All they need to sign is Krebs + Malynsteyn. Since you still have the Tuch asset, they could of packaged him with something to get say a Robertson, Knies, whatever take your pick. All of the teams with loads of cap space would have been interested in Tuch. Say Anaheim, VAN, SJ, Detroit has like 30+ mil in cap space. They could package up, or a 3 way for say a Knies AND they'd still be drafting say a Bjork or Reid after the Byrum trade. I get the cap argument, and the contract argument, but the Byrum trade could be good… But it's sort of going to be cancelled out by this Tuch fumble. It's Toronto Mitch Marner 2.0. But the Sabres are so stacked they can sustain it, but you generally don't let good assets go for nothing… That's how you bleed 🩸 out 👍 🏒 💯 ⚔️
