So this means. Hopefully Buffalo keeps and drafts at 4 hopefully has a better career than Byram get a 25 year old real good defensive defenseman in Louis Crevier better than overrated Logan Stanley low risk high reward and hopefully trade picks 20 and 45 in a package that can make the Sabres better now. I’m hoping they keep 4 with the capital they have. Keep Ostlund and Helenius but for guys that wasn’t going to sign Jarmo cooked
Steve is a total dip. Chicago has THREE first rounders next season and doesn't need to draft another D or FWD that will take 3-4 years to develop and impact the team. Hawks needed to get better on the blueline now. They get a Cup winner who just turned 25 and can move the puck. Byram was the best available. Sorry, I know overpaying for 30 year old defense, who had only one solid season (due to Hedman being injured), is what Steve enjoys. Hawks aren't getting the Swede now that Eklund was traded from San Jose….. Just like Steve's take on everything else, his take here take is void of intelligent thought.
Count the banners leafs fans.
As an Avs fan… we love Bo Byram… when he's healthy, he absolutely has what it takes to be top pair defenseman. That "when he's healthy" is carrying a whole lot of weight there, because part of the reason he got traded was that it was after a season where he sustained multiple concussions in the year and missed a significant amount of time. He is incredible when he's healthy, and I wouldn't at all say "he's stuck behind Makar" so much as Dahlin and Makar are amazing, but on a team like Chicago… they just don't have anyone that amazing. The weird part for me is that this is just… a super expensive rental. It's not even a long term deal, so I'm wondering if like some background chats aren't happening where his agent has already indicated a willingness to do a long-term contract there.
As a Blackhawks fan.. i legit want to puke… KD has absolutely ruined this rebuild and any chance Bedard stays here long term.
Hronik to Buff for the 4th.
Including Greenway is like asking the guy you just dumped to pay for dinner also.
Bedsy to Canucks 2030 start the clock
Carolina has a young d-man that might be in the trade block. 4th overall sounds good to me.
Big fan of you guys and your content, but I think you’re pretty off here. No chance stenberg falls to 4 after the sharks trading away eklund. The hawks shopped the pick for wingers (including knies) and the deal wasn’t there. The decision is either a d who is 2-3 years away from his rookie season or a former 4th overall pick who is a guaranteed asset and helps the hawks now. Also, the market sets the price. Sharks offer 9th + and rangers offered 5th + so that’s just what he cost. With all that said, Davidson needs to get bedard a winger. It just doesn’t seem like 4 was going to be the asset that could make that happen
You always quote the family guy clip about the boat yet ironically always overvalue draft pics, what # overall was Byram drafted again?
0:03 good thing they have 3 next year lol
Imagine saying Byram's game hasn't changed much since the Avs traded him. What an astronomically stupid thing to say lol
He just dropped back to back 40 point seasons and his concussion scares are long gone. You guys are such clowns
Imagine being byram, you have the pressure of being drafted 5th overall and being traded for a 4th overall
11:32 because if the Sabres or NHL find out about that, you aren’t having a first round pick for a long, long time.
Prediction: The "real interesting" offer for the #2 pick that Grier mentioned is from DAL: Thomas Harley and Mavrik Bourque for #2 overall
My guess being the sticking point is SJ wants to keep #2 and just send #9 for Harley only.
DAL needs cap space to sign Robertson and Harley is way too expensive for a 2nd pairing D. If they get #2 in return they can slot Stenberg directly into Bourque's spot in the lineup and use the remaining space to find another 2nd pair LD
SJ obviously values Stenberg over Bourque but, the need for D that can play now is great and giving up on Stenberg means you fill 2 holes simultaneously and still retain #9 overall.
I can see this going either way…
Imagine turning Casey Middlestaft into The 4th OVERALL PICK!! BUFFALO! MASTERCLASS
WRONG!!How many 1 round pick did NOT work out for he Blackhawks?? Go back and look helped WIN a Stanley Cup for COlorado %100 rigth call take a KNOWN prodcut fvs rolling the dice with somone who wont be in the NHL for at least 2- 4 years
Could have just taken chase Reid or verhoff. Who project to be just as good as byram. Plus you have 3 years of ELC AND fits your timeline since you’re still awful.
Byram had 42 points last season was a +15 and just turned 25. Hawks made this trade because Stenburg isn’t falling to them and they can’t afford to wait 2 seasons for Carels or Reid
I think you’re downplaying Byram skill level a bit and you’re off on Stenberg falling below #2. That being said… Hawks heavily overpaid for Byram. He’s not worth that 4. I would argue a 6-10 but not a 4, especially without a long term contract established.
While this was a massive overpay KD not having a hit on his hands is a wild statement.
As a Blackhawk supporter I am fine with the trade.
I am horrified by the contract talk though.
"You spent a lot of assets to get me. Pay me well or I walk to Free Agent next year." :S
I think saying it’s Casey Mittelstadt for the 4th overall pick is unfair. Byram has improved since that trade went down, Mittelstadt has arguably taken a step back. Plus, it was two years ago. I don’t think that trade would be accepted today
Calling the Bowen Byram trade 'insane' just tells you all you need to know about Steve Dangle.
"A Podcaster whose hubris far exceeds his intelligence."
Haven't been able to listen to whole episodes in awhile. I'd love to know their opinion on how Larkin was the first name to ask for a trade and Yzerman has only given a prospect a 2 way contract since.
Bedard was quoted the other day saying something about he didn't watch any of the stanley cup playoffs because he was pissed off about not making it…. Honestly, this could've definitely been highly motivated by trying to keep Bedard happy
These guys don’t know anything
I feel the same about the crazy price, BUT – I think overall we overestimate what a 4th overall can be. A top 5 never guarantee an elite player, look at past drafts. Byram is a real player, now. 4th is still nothing for now, and MIGHT never be anything. Playing devils' advocate but in the Hawks context, kind of make sense. They have to improve now, they gambled.
people don't seem to look at it correctly for Chicago. if there scouts say they believe no one they draft @4 have the same upside as Byram why wouldn't they have made this trade? this to me is clearly the case. the idea that Chicago would do a wink wink sign here next year is ridiculous and doesn't have to be honored at all and is tampering.
Chris MacFarland did a fantastic job screwing over the Avs! Bad trade after bad trade, completely leveraged the Avs future picks for lazy and old centers. Never should have traded Newhook! Now he's fat and happy in Nashville with a plate full of picks and as much cap space as he wants. Thanks for nothing!
