If the rumors are true and Columbus is even listening on Marchenko, Kent Hughes needs to be all over it.

In this video, I break down Marchenko’s game, why he’s become one of the Blue Jackets’ most valuable offensive players, how his size and skill would fit perfectly into Montreal’s young core. We also discuss why players of this age and caliber rarely become available and whether the Canadiens should be willing to pay the price.

Is Marchenko the missing piece Montreal has been searching for?

  1. Other teams are making moves but they don't have what Montreal has so they have to make moves. I am ok with picking up someone but not giving away what we have.

  2. The Hab's got by Tampa by one goal. Carolina showed that it will take more than a couple of players, to get to the final. All of the young players need another year of playing time and to coach their development. With Florida, Tampa, Edmonton, Colorado not making it to the final was A once on great while strange event. next year probably be more status Quo.

  3. The player(s) that weren't so bothered by losing…out the door and not getting resigned.

The only Columbus players who may move this season are Johnson or Voronkov. Waddell will demand a lot for anyone else. Marchenko nor Werenski going anywhere. They missed the playoffs in 25 by literally an overtime loss. The Olympic break hurt them this year. That core isn't being messed before the trade deadline. Werenski's camp stated he hasn't requested a trade. He's the next captain.

  4. HUGO has a plan and I will wait to judge. The ability to win long term is based on balancing the talent vs contracts (long or short term) . You don't want to disrespect players by a knee jerk signing. Dobson is the highest paid ..a 2C or RDman if signed has to fit the salary structure.

  5. I certainly hope the Habs will be able to find this 2C and this right-handed D-man they need. Yet, I still believe that no deal at all is better than a bad deal. Hughes has been very patient to rebuild this team so far, and I expect him to stick to his plan.

  6. I definitely like Marchenko but they will still need a 2C and a RD, so hopefully they don't empty the coffers for him. And it'll need to be a sign and trade, not spending assets for 1 year.

  7. Please Kent don’t sell the farm to plug a hole for some expensive long term contract.Prefer to develop our own unless a perfect deal comes along. Patience Pays, and remember, sometimes the best trade is the one you Don’t make.

  8. Marchenko and Knies are the two players Hughes needs to push hard on. A power winger is essential in the playoffs. I would like it if Columbus or Toronto would take a bundle of draft picks but anyone not named Suzuki, Slafkovsky, Caufield, Demidov, Hutson or Dobson is in play. It will hurt to obtain either of the two but the Habs need this type of player if they are to have playoff success.
I agree with you Whiskey – Hughes get it done.

  9. Too many Habs fans are like those people who have just gone on a 3rd date and start planning their wedding….
Relax people… Ken will pop the trade when he's found that perfect mix of talent and cost without giving up the farm.

    It's going to happen…. probably… soon enough.

  10. I’ve been big on Marchenko for MONTHS!! I’m so happy you’re talking about him – he’s such a talented player (and an absolute point producer in fantasy hockey 😂)

  11. Honestly, for me, I'd rather not give up either Hage or Zharovsky. I know they're unproven, but the ceiling could be very high for both. I'd prioritize a big, gritty, right-handed D-man over that 2C. Just my opinion of course.

  13. in my eyes the Dobson trade was a bust, too much given for the return, he's average at best and once again the couch gm are clamoring for a r shot defenseman which Dobson is and he didnt accomplish much or give any character to the team. Dont give in to making another lousy deal Dobson was also given too much cash for what he brings.
Kapanen is and will be a better nhl player than Hague, folks need to realize this and trading him is a no brainer because his value as an nhl'er is a 3,or 4 line player trade now if the return is better than a 4th liner.

  14. Might sounds stupid but why haven’t we explored more the possibility of Arber playing 4th line Forward this would add weight and size? Otherwise Wilson or marchenko looks solid to me

  15. What i would like to see is the Habs acquiring a power winger to play with Suzuki and Caufield, dropping Slaf with Demidov and Newhook for the moment, if they need to get a center next year so be it, at least they have Hage that fits the missing 2Cs profile but no players fit the power winger profile they are missing in the org.

  16. This year was great because it really underlined where our weaknesses were. Our second line is still not championship calibre and of course the mythical 2C and 3C…But, those weaknesses do not have to be dealt with this summer. I believe that because most or our core have not entered their peak years. We don't know how good Demidov will become. We don't know if Rheinbacher will come good. We don't know how good Slavkovsky and Caufield will become. And, of course Hage and Zharovsky won't even show up until next year…

  17. Yesterdays trade were all about 1st round picks, (idk mtl situation but I dont think we have good ones to trade for amazing players) the free agency frenzy is where I seen Hughes making some trades or after the draft to get what is needed we got our young core we need some hole fillers now
