Vegas Golden Knights Struggle as Jordan Staal DOMINATES, Carter Hart Sets NEW Record | VGK Podcast

Vegas Golden Knights unravel in Game 5 as the Carolina Hurricanes take a commanding series lead. Penalties, fatigue, and key injuries—including William Karlsson’s hand setback—leave VGK scrambling for answers, while Carolina’s power play, fueled by Andrei Svechnikov’s two goals, punishes every mistake. Is this the end of Vegas’ Stanley Cup hopes or do they have enough left to force Game 7?

Tony Dasco and Chris Gawlik break down John Tortorella’s juggling act after Karlsson’s injury, Carter Hart’s new NHL record for goals allowed, and the Hurricanes’ physical dominance led by Jordan Staal and massive hits from Sean Walker. They debate lineup changes, the impact of lopsided faceoffs, and questionable officiating. The hosts also tackle trade rumors, coaching controversies, and whether Brandon Saad or Riley Smith could spark a Golden Knights comeback.

  1. What a total JOKE for some of the penalty calls last night . Everything called againt Vega$ nothing or very little against Carolina . This changed the game in favor of the win for Carolina .Who hires these Clowns to Ref a game ? Poor quality .🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

  2. Tony's breaking out the champagne 🍾 on Sunday. One thing that is a guarantee is we will give up 4 goals.Thats the one consitent part of their game.Ask Torts how does he plan to score 5 on Sunday.

  3. Honestly, trading for Rasmus Andersen has been their Tomas Tatar move of the season. He's just not doing much to live up to his wanted contract. Most of the top-tier players on Vegas just aren't showing up. People can shit on Marner, but Eichel has zero goals in the SCF. They aren't getting goals from their defenseman, and Doro FINALLY scored but no one else was doing anything aside from throwing pucks directly at Bussi's chest. They're playing like they're the Knights of old, not crashing the net, not moving the puck for quality shots, defensive lapses, etc. And that shouldn't be happening with this roster.

  4. what i saw was an absolute disgrace!!! u do not start a goaltender 27 straight times idc if its carter hart or hill u don't do that!!!! IF i see carter hart in net sunday the season is over! very undisciplined by VGK it felt like we played the cassidy game instead of torts game!

  5. 23:43 Babcock was fired after the Leafs played the Knights actually. MAF made historic saves (reaching save on Bozak I think?) and the Leafs lost. Babcock was fired right after lmao

  6. I think the entire VGK club is gassed, the D has been sus and Hart can take a couple months off after next week!!! No way I’m making a change in net at this juncture.

  7. Pit Stop Game 6. Vegas refuels and readies for 7.

To win SC otr…you have to release the illusion it is yours for the taking.

Canes lose Game 6. You just gave CPR successfully to your opponent.

  8. McNabbs worst game! He did nothing to prevent that first tip in goal but just stand next to the Carolina player and not even touch him, then gets stupid penalties that cost more goals. Hart is burned out. Stone running around like Braveheart with his sword waving in the air cost us again. Eichel misses a chance on an empty net. Officiating was rotten. 3 or 4 missed obvious penalties on Carolina and 2 penalties on VGK completely made up. The penalty on Lousy for pushing Stanky over and then Stanky gets up in slo-mo with Lousys stick being held under his armpit and the blind ref still doesn’t call a penalty on Stanky for grabbing Lousys stick. Theodore didn’t clear the puck out on Carolinas 1st goal either so he was not good. Torts not putting in Reilly Smith was a huge mistake. I think he would had given us a goal or two this series which could had won us a game. Whats worse is that the poor boy with cancer that Torts brought to the game was being interviewed outside of the arena before the game wearing his VGK gear last night. A Carolina fan walked by and gave the boy with cancer a thumbs down. A little boy with cancer and the VGK let those SOBs win. Shame on the VGK for not stepping up for that kid. I thought for sure the VGK was going to win after that. VGK had their Babe Ruth moment to step up and point out to that little boy where they were going to hit that next pitch out for a Home Run. The VGK didn’t even step up to the plate.

  9. WTF Locked On LLC: Maybe in the offseason we can get Locked On management to go get us a co-host for Chris who at least likes VGK, doesn’t cheer against VGK and who won’t take potshots at VGK players every chance he gets!!!

  10. Torts has done what he can to get the most out of this team to the Stanley Cup finals. Unfortunately, Carolina so far has been a much more disciplined and aggressive team in many aspects, especially the neutral zone clogging up the passing lanes as well as constant pressure in the offensive zone. I don’t think anyone actually believes that Vegas has played well in the series. Maybe a few spots here and there, but overall clearly not. My concern is that the torts effect has reached its zenith and at this point, he is being outcoached by the other side.

  11. To be honest, Carter Hart is really not to be blame. Some really bad defense where anyone would have scored on those shots. Hurricanes players were wide open beside the net. Coughlin and Lauzon have been really bad.

Luck on those post shots definitely could have won them the last two games but they’re letting these games slip away.

  12. Do I have this straight? The only penalties called against Carolina were obvious must be called delay of game penalties? Not one tripping? Not one interference?? Sure seems the NHL is directing this series away from the Knights.

  13. Lauzon is why Knights lost cup along with bumbling Torts like Pink Panther. Vegas are spurs who lose 30 point lead to Knicks. Instead of doing a logical move like Korczak in over Lauzon who has been on ice or caused every single Carolina goal. As Theodore is defensive liability but played on PK as Lauzon so bad. Breaking up Marner from Wild Bill Howdwn was dumbest thing ever seen in SCF besides playing Lauzon. So Bogus 4 minute penalty on Stone as Rigged Refs making sure Carolina wins. That move breaking up lines caused Wild Bill Injury. Hurricanes finally listened to me playing Bussi sealing easy Cup. If I was Knights Coach would just play 7 D with Korczak in. Eichel never scored Goal in SCF. Double shift 9 93 16 then etc.

  14. if they're going to keep taking penalties, would be nice to have Smith and Karlsson on the first PK and Howden and Marner on the second PK and just win the game with all shorties

  15. I would love to see the Knights come through. But honestly the Hurricanes are playing a more disciplined game and scoring on the power play. Among other good things the canes are doing right. The Knights can't get into the O zone and if you don't shoot you don't score. If our best face off guy is Nic Dowd why isn't he going against Jordan Staal?
    Here's to next season.

  16. I’m not saying “Vegas should abandon structure.”I’m saying Vegas’ structure has become too readable, and against Carolina that makes turnovers more dangerous because the Canes can instantly understand the map after they win the puck.

If Vegas is predictable, then a turnover becomes:

Carolina steals puck → already knows where Vegas players are likely positioned → quick pass to open space → immediate chance.

But if Vegas is moving unpredictably, rotating, skating through coverage, and passing into space, then even a turnover is less clean for Carolina because the Hurricanes also have to reorient:

Carolina steals puck → has to locate marks, spacing, and support → Vegas has time to recover.

    That’s a really important distinction.

The other layer identified is that unpredictability creates real mismatches. A stationary or half-speed player is easy to defend: close on him, poke the puck, force a rushed pass. But a player moving at full speed with the puck, using size and hockey
Use structure as the foundation, but use motion to make it unreadable.
