MOCK DRAFT ROUND UP: San Jose Sharks Debating Chase Reid vs Ivar Stenberg in MOCK Draft BATTLE

San Jose Sharks face a pivotal NHL Draft week, as the debate heats up between selecting Ivar Stenberg or Chase Reid with the No. 2 overall pick. Will Mike Grier’s front office lean toward a high-skill winger or a franchise-altering defenseman? The prospect pipeline brims with talent, but key choices at No. 2 and No. 27 could define the Sharks’ rebuild and future playoff ambitions.

JD Young highlights mock drafts from top analysts, dissecting the cases for Stenberg’s elite two-way game versus Reid’s transformational blue-line presence. The episode explores secondary options such as Adam Goljer, Nikita Klepov, Ryder Cali, Brooks Rogowski, and JP Hurlbert, and questions whether San Jose should double down on defense or boost its bottom-six forward depth. With rumors swirling and expert opinions shifting, all eyes are on how the Sharks navigate the smoke screens and make their mark on draft night.

  1. Oh God don't compare Reid to Dickenson! Then Reid is a 1000% Noooooooo if thats the case. Dickenson was horrendous this year for us and Canada. We easily would have made the playoffs if we took away the game winning goals Dickenson let blow by him.

  2. Damnit, I got pulled into the Frey once again. Really, honestly, I just want BPA at end of day. All trust in Grier. Sorry to those I argued while I lean stenberg. I’d be stupid to think I really know he’s better in the long term. If Reid’s the guy, and the guy we hope he is. F me, I’m sorry I was wrong. Just want best for the team in the long run.

Let’s all have a great draft week. End of the day, most likely we’re really taking a step towards the promise land.

  3. OHL defensman that's 2 years away for the NHL at the earliest is somehow a better prospect then the NHL ready world championships top line winger from a regular final four country? GTFO.

  4. We’ll draft Reid and when we win a cup and Reid is a big part of the reason we won, people will apologize for saying we should’ve drafted someone else. Can’t wait to watch him with Celebrini for the next 15 years

  5. I want the Sharks to round out the team and address their lack of RHD, but I'm not screaming about it. 🙃 Reid plus Goljer sounds great. Or Piiparinen if he's still around at #27. I will also be psyched if the Sharks draft Stenberg. I expect Grier to pick Stenberg as Grier has been consistently BPA in word and drafting. I don't think Vancouver or Chicago have enough reason to trade up with the prospects in the top 4 all being so close in ability. Without a trade back, Grier probably picks Stenberg. Stenberg is BPA, but it's close. When it's this close I think the Sharks could justify picking Reid to fill their biggest need at RD1. It's much easier to draft a RD1 than to acquire one through trade or free agency. Remember the Sharks fans who were saying "Forget Reid, we'll just sign Raddysh"? It's not that simple. There are a lot of good reasons to draft Stenberg over Reid, but Stenberg's likely playing in the NHL next year isn't one of them. The Sharks won't be contending for a Cup for at least 3 years. Reid will be ready by then. The Sharks can't go wrong with either Reid or Stenberg.. I can't wait for Friday! The future is so teal!

  6. Really see it as not even a debate as Ruck or Roowski are better than stenberg who could be there at 27th. Almost comical sub 6 feet forwards are even drafted after Turcotte for Kings showed Seider easy Calder. My Newsdat has stenberg going 4th with my mock draft having Calgary take Johnny Not Hockey too. The draft talent is not filled with generational talents. All the good D with size skill speed should be drafted by 2oth. Rather offer sheet Dorofeyev as even like 9.6 Million will only cost 1st 2nd 3rd rounders for guy who can score 40 or 50 goals. While there nobody decent at RHD who can sign especially Rasmus. Least soucy or Stanley give 6'6 LHD for like 3 to 5M. Reid wins Calder in 2029.

  7. Value wise I like Reid/Carels if we can swap #2 for CHI #4 plus one of their dman and picks. Otherwise, I like Stenberg at 2OA. I trust Grier and team have done their due diligence. If Reid is the pick at 2OA then I trust they have a higher evaluation on him than Stenberg and will look forward to having a promising RD prospect in the pipeline.

  8. Finish with the 11th pick.
    Win the draft lottery.
    Draft DuPont.

That, or acquire someone else's pick and they win the lottery.

I don't see the Sharks finishing near the bottom of the league next year.
Probably on the cusp of the playoffs, just in or just out.

  9. I can’t wait for the draft to be over so all the people who hyper fixate on one prospect and think the world will end if they don’t get picked can go chill out in the corner. This has been some of the worst discourse in the comments on multiple different Sharks channels, all over a gift from the hockey gods that none of us thought we’d get. I honestly don’t care who Grier picks as long as they work out because I don’t pretend to be an amateur scout and I just want to see the Sharks win a Stanley Cup once in my life. Guess that’s the internet for ya 🤷. See you in the next one JD

  10. Has Grier selected an offensive minded defensive in the first two rounds yet? I just don’t think he values that as much as everyone else. He wants strong defensive dman that can move the puck.
