MARKET SET: Does the blockbuster Brady Tkachuk trade set Dylan Larkin’s trade market

A blockbuster trade took place on Father’s Day. The Florida Panthers dealt three 1st round picks and a 2nd round pick to Ottawa for Brady Tkachuk. What does this mean for the Senators? What does the continued American player trades mean for the NHL? Finally, what does this trade mean for Dylan Larkin’s trade market? #LGRW

  1. If you guys get lucky, you might get some of those picks that Ottawa just acquired for Larkin. And Larkin (being an asshole) would fit right in up there in Ottawa. Be fun to send him there, since he doesn't want to go. Or maybe we can send him to the Siberian team in the KHL so he can learn some manners.

  2. Larkin is a better, if older player than Tkachuk. Better defensively. Signed longer. I expect the return to be similar if not better. Prior to this, I thought Tij Iginla & Caleb Desnoyers was a pipe dream. Now I think it's somewhat realistic, assuming Larks would go there. Larkin and a 2nd? But it also depends on if Utah is interested in bettering their chances of winning right now or wanting to keep the cupboard stacked for the future.

  3. I wonder if Ottawa is also gearing up for another big trade. Unless getting swept in the playoffs was an eye-opener for this team and they decided to go in another direction.

  4. This definitely sets the market along with Hughes. Yzerman should and certainly will demand similar compensation. The question is whether any teams on Larkin's list are willing and able to pay it. Without a suitor to empty the cabinet for Larks there will be no deal.

  5. Here we go again. Other teams already making moves and Yzerman appers to still be sitting on his hands.
He is so arrogant that I won't be surprised if he doesn't trade Larkin, just to prove who is in charge.

  6. I wouldn't rule out Ottawa presenting an offer sheet to Jason Robertson. The return from the Tkachuk trade gives them enough first round picks to meet the compensation that would be required (4 first rounders) and he would fit into their current timeline.

  7. Hey Larkin did brady take your spot? Oh noo! Whaaa whaaa. Florida won't trade their 3rd line center for you? Whaaa whaaa. Maybe steve can get a nice used puck bag for you seeing you are softer than quilted northern Whaaa Whaaa. What a primadonna whaaaterford crybaby whaa whaaaa.

  8. Just shows you the media rumors about Florida being in in Larkin were completely wrong. If the Red Wings can’t also get a 1st round pick in their return for Larkin it would be a complete failure. This is why it is significant if the Wings can’t trade Larkin by draft night. It would show the big return may not be there

  9. What is it with the American players, wanting to get out of their situations that they signed up for. Not even playing out their contracts they signed.

  10. No trade clause must go away. At max there should only be a 20 team no trade, which still gives players leverage but can still help an organization. For a player to be able to completely fuck over an organization should not be allowed.

  11. Detroit needs to trade Larkin for a similar haul, then offer sheet Connor Bedard for a billion dollars. Then they give up their next four 1st round picks , but they have someone else's 1st round picks for at least two of those years.

  12. Mr Y’s reputation precedes him. It has a negative impact in this era. The ‘I’m going to screw you”
approach (real or implied) is dead. Teams approach Mr Y. with caution and unwilling to engage beyond pre-set boundaries. Mr Y no longer negotiates with an individual.
Discussions are held as a team before any GM agrees/disagrees. Quick, aggressive decisions are Not the norm. At least on good teams.

And sorry but Brady has that intrinsic value to Florida that Larkin doesn’t have.
He a a vgood 2C and that is what his return should be. On any team on his list, Larkin will be the 2C; have limited PP time and points. That will impact the return.

  13. People who hate Larkin are the same people who are satisfied with the current Yzerplan, would like to see another 5 or 7 years of rebuild and are going to go ballistic when Larks gets traded and ends up on a Stanley Cup team like Gostisbehere. Happy for Shane, gonna be happy for Dylan and hate to see the mediocrity lovers who worship a great hockey player but lousy GM ruin another 10 years.

  14. Irony: the wing's biggest trade in decades is being handled by the same failure of a GM that drove the trade demand in the first place!

  15. The price tag just skyrocketed from where it was believed to be.
That's the fact of what the Tkachuk trade did.
The comparison is a two-way, near point-per-game center with one of the most team-friendly contract in the NHL having more years remaining on it than Tkachuks.
Even despite the age difference and comparable stats it's coupled with the fact centers are far more valued than wingers in the NHL so he should garner to the least a comparable ransom for sure.
The question now becomes who can afford it and is willing to pay.
With that said and the Tkachuk trade that eliminates Florida including the Wild simply because they can't afford it.
The VGK, I don't see them affording it either or things going exactly right for them to.
So what's inevitable now for us to hear is Incoming additional teams to his list now within hours to days after this trade or a full removal of his NTC. Leaving open a trade to teams that have the pieces to afford his updated price tag

  16. Except Larkin is a contract albatross waiting to happen. In order to take him, I'd want 2 #1 picks, because I know I'll need at least one just to get rid of him in 1-2 years.

  17. Tkachuk was able to go to his management, request the trade, no public stories, and get moved to Florida to play with his brother while Ottawa got a decent/good return. Larkin probably not moving at all. Seems like the same teams Brady gave were the same teams that Larkin did. These USA boys aren't going to be able to all play on the same team like they probably thought….Larkin isn't as valuable as he thinks, couldn't even break 80 points when he was the best player on the team. Above average, maybe….

  18. FLA was never a realistic option for Larkin. They have the best top 3 C's in the NHL that they won a couple cups with already. Brady and Hellyb were their obvious targets.

Also this was a 100% forced trade on Bradys behalf because that's not an impressive haul whatsoever for a team that's ready to compete right now.

  19. I’m taking a new job now where I work 4am to 2pm so watching wings games will be out of the question for me now. Been a hell of a ride this last 6 years watching every game but I won’t miss out on anything next year that’s for sure
