With the 2026 NHL Draft approaching I figured we’d take a look at some updates from some of the top writers that cover the New York Rangers and the draft to see who is likely to be selected by them. The Rangers have the 5th overall pick and with the top part of the draft being loaded with high-end talent there’s still a question on which prospect the team may take.

If Carels is available you take him.
Malhotra will be drafted by the Canucks. I'd even rather have Carels over Malhotra. You build from the goal out & D is a priority for me. Guys at #26, there are lots of them. Morozov, Novotny, Roobroeck, Villeneuve. They are all better than Hextall. Getting Pugachyov(see below) would be a great grab in the third.
Defense first! We need backline help drastically.
Gotta go defense in this defense heavy draft. So many good defensive prospects in this draft that'll be available at number five.
2 things. 1. Drafting bc a prospect is more NHL ready almost always backfires. lets not make that mistake yet again. 2. according to cam robinson, carels is open to signing right away. so that door is not closed. obviously that would be up to the rangers.
