If you are wondering why McTavish has struggled and might be on the trading block, here are some stats that may explain why…
Number of speed bursts over 20mph (per NHL Edge):
McTavish:
2025-26: 29(75g)
2024-25: 48(76g)
2023-24: 36(64g)
vs
Suzuki: 237(82g)
Kapanen: 127(82g)
Evans: 85 (68g)
Danault: 55(75g)
Veleno: 136 (61g)
Dach: 68 (37g)
Newhook: 74 (42g)
The lack of speed (or intensity?) is quite obvious and seems quite plateaued… Montreal has mainly focused on speed so far, so the fit may not be there.
A center for a dman who hasn't proven he can even play in the NHL.
To many other teams will want McTavish for the silly deal. A 2nd and Reinbacher. LOL.
I wouldnt trad DR even for MM ..
I would rather work on kapanen and dach than Mctavish… same result with less cap space taken. And wait a year for Hage, If Danault re-sign then okay I guess. the need for a 2e C isn't as urgent as the Ducks needing a good D I believe, though I don't watch the ducks much so im not that sure. I'd say, it isn't the time for that trade. Things can turn around for either team with the draft and the 1 of july. Maybe during the middle of a season it would be worth it.
Is McTavish really better than Kapanen?
One for one
NO to Mctavish
Nah. Mctavish is potential under a 7mill cap hit. Reinbacher is potential under an entry level contract. At most this should be a 1 for 1 trade. Both sides are gambling, both sides share the risk and reward.
McTavish barely had more than Kappanen
If Anaheim really needed to shore up their RD why would they give up a roster player for Reinbacher that might not be quite ready for the NHL? Makes no sense for them.
Adam Engström plus first round pick for Mason MCtavish and Mickeal Hage plus second round for Matthew Knies
