NJ Devils Looking To Make A Goaltending Change?

Is New Jersey Devils General Manager Sunny Mehta looking to shakeup the goaltending in NJ?

Last week NHL insider and former NJ Devils goaltender, Kevin Weekes, tweeted that the Devils were gauging interest in Jacob Markstrom around the league.

What does this mean for the NJ Devils goaltending going forward?

Is Connor Hellebuyck of interest?

I discuss it all and more in this video.

  1. I think the Marky/Allen tandem will start the season. If Marky continues to underperform, then Sunny Mehta knows where to knock on the door. I personally would like to see a Daws / Allen tandem, i think Daws earned it over the seasons and i think the confidence boost he gets then will make him a strong enough goaltender.

  2. I can see Hellebuyck going to FLA or Vegas if they can make it work with WPG. Priority #1 is getting out of the Markstrom deal for flexiblity, though. If #37 comes to NJ I'd love it, but Marky leaving is almost addition by subtraction – and definitely allows for more options.

  3. Euh that intro feels so wrong. Love what Sunny’s doing so far though! Cleaning house is great and it seems like he’s very ambitious I was super surprised about the goaltending stuff. Learned from Zitto I guess. Man the fact that he’s pretty
Much done with Nico’s contract before July first vs Luke contract last year with Fitz is WILD.

  4. Sunny has a lot of work to do. We want short term success if he can make it happen but this organization also needs work from the ground up. We need to improve scouting and player development badly and that is important to future success.

  5. My concern with Markstrom is a trade is probably going to require the Devils to absorb some of his salary. How much are the Devils going to have to pay Markstrom not to play for them?
