The Montreal Canadiens still need answers at 2C, and in this PuckTalk MTL episode, we break down the big question: would Dylan Strome really fix Montreal’s second-line centre problem? For Montreal Canadiens fans, NHL fans, hockey fans, and anyone following the Habs offseason, this is one of the biggest roster debates facing the organization. Montreal needs more support behind Nick Suzuki, more offense through the middle, and a player who can help stabilize the top nine without disrupting the team’s long-term build.
This video covers Dylan Strome’s fit with the Canadiens, what he could bring as a potential 2C, how his playmaking, size, and offensive instincts would translate in Montreal, and whether the trade cost or acquisition price would truly be worth it. We dive into Montreal Canadiens news, Habs analysis, Canadiens trade talk, 2C options, NHL offseason discussion, and what Kent Hughes should really be looking for in a second-line centre.

When did Beck ever become a 2C option? I'm a big Beck fan, but not at two C.
I like Strome. I’d offer Mesar Joshua Roy and a second rounder possibly include Davidson
Why not Newhook Texier and a lower pick?
First things first:is Washington even putting him on the trading block in the first place? If yes, with the Canadiens drafting late in the first round, I might consider it as PART OF what Hughes might be willing to part with. I can see it needing 2 players sent to the Caps but not 3.
Glad to have seen Carolina win the Stanley Cup instead of Vegas. Not overly fond of the way they dealt with the coach they fired, Cassidy ,refusing to let him be interviewed by other teams for a head coaching job at least until the playoffs ended and who knows what they can do because they don’t care.I like Rod Brind’amour more than Tortarella hands down.
Strome at $5 million is definitely worth considering. He’s got skill and a good hockey IQ so it seems he could be a good fit with Demidov. IMO it’s the bottom six issue that needs to be addressed until the Habs get the players that can forecheck hard and punish the opposing teams D I’m not sure it really matters who we get as a 2C (McDavid or Celebrini might do the trick😆). As for what I would give up in the forward group only 4 guys are untouchable Nick,Cole,Slaf and Demi and I would be reluctant to move Anderson or Evans everyone else is on the table. Carrier,Struble and Xhekaj although I would be be sad to see Arber go but maybe a move might be what’s best for him a chance to play and develop something it doesn’t seem he will get in Montreal. As for prospects that the Caps might want and the Habs might give the only 2 that are NHL ready are Beck and Engstrom. We are keeping our guys like Florian Xhekaj and Tyler Thorpe as they are the bottom 6 beasts we are going to need.
Strome may not be the best guy…all around good, but a touch slow.
Aim higher?…pay for Florida's Lundell…he seems the real deal, and like McTavish he seems blocked by star 1st line centers.
24 yrs. speed, size, grit, skill….also only 5mil & many years left.
And while they're at it, get players who can get the puck out of their zone so the Canadiens and the opposing teams aren't hanging out there several minutes at a time!!!
I think the Habs should go after Mackinnon
First, Strome, Wilson, and Dubois are not for trade, period. Second, therefore, all the rumors about them are also false. All players without exception can be traded? Yes. Okay, okay, so what can be offered for Strome? Answer: double his value because Wash has no interest in trading, it's simple. But if Montreal offers Ghule for Strome + the first-round pick (top 10 protected)… oh, they're listening closely. And I hear you now saying that Montreal doesn't want to trade Ghule, yes, yes, just like Wash with Strome.
I beg to differ. How much are you willing to pay Dylan Strome and who are you going to play with him? Strome only recently got better because of Ovie. I suggest that the Habs need to pair someone with Hutson to round out the top pairing D.
1st, B level prospect…I'd view him as our rental for the next 2 years to hold spot for hage…
If the idea is that Strome is a stop gap until Hage is NHL ready, then yes this move makes sense. A late first rounder and Monty.. do it!
