New York Rangers PERFECT Trade Idea & Free Agent Target | Albert Smits To Rangers At Pick 5?

If the New York Rangers ended up trading Braden Schneider this offseason, considering the team has nearly $27,000,000 in cap space, they could go after a high-end right-handed defenseman in free agency like John Carlson. In today’s video, we discuss that idea and talk about a Sports Illustrated article that talks about why Albert Smits might be NHL-ready, who is an option for the Rangers with the 5th overall pick.

  1. While I don't think the trades you mentioned are unrealistic, the main issue is the players/players around the league don't see the Rangers as an appealing place to play on right now. People need to understand, just how much damage Drury's reputation took a hit on how unprofessionally he force Trouba out of NY. Now, I know fans will say he needed to be move, which I agreed with. However, the method Drury took to do this was the absolutely worst way to handle it. He basically told the "CAPTAIN AND VOICE OF THE TEAM" at the time, you aren't good enough, so kicks rocks were trading you're ass. Trouba's own words on how he felt during that process killed any chance Drury had at being a successful NHL level GM. The players, don't even play hard anymore. Most of the season, you saw the Rangers coasting without giving much effort. If the Rangers really want to start heading in the right direction and get back on the players side within the Org, Drury needs to be fired but he's Dolan's guy so he's safe. So in the end, Doesn't matter who the Rangers trade for or, draft. If the players aren't going to play hard while Drury is the GM, then all of this off-season stuff is meaningless.

  2. But how do we compete there is nothing out there for us we don’t have prospects to trade we have to trade good players to get good players that leaves us in the same spot just rebuild

  3. Are you nuts. Your all over the place. He could be an improvement but maybe not ? He could be nhl ready but then again maybe not. Wtf. And Carlson at 10 mil per ? Have you lost your mind. I cant listen to this anymore

  4. I think we need to pick a direction. Trading Schneider for a first round pick, sure, but also we want to compete. If we want to get better we need to get some key forwards while Igor, foxy, JT and Mika are still younger-ish

  5. There is no quick fix for the Rangers as "retool" suggests. Carlsson would be just another aging star the Rangers have brought in over the years to no avail. Robitaille, Lafleur, even Gretzky, etc. which is not building for a competitive future. They will sign a few vets for the Pack, like Fix-Wolansky last year, who was outstanding, but was overlooked for guys like Blidh. Trading Trochek & Schneider will backfire.

  6. Getting at least one NHL-ready player at the draft gives Drury more options in the trade market. That is one reason why drafting Smits makes a lot of sense. For example, getting an NHL-ready Smits, could make Schneider expendable. Another sleeper player at a position of need who is widely seen as very close to NHL-ready is center Oliver Suvanto. Imagine getting a 3rd line center and a top 4 defenseman who can step right into the lineup on day 1 or very quickly after getting their feet wet in Hartford! Drury could then have more options in the trade market to fill other needs.
