MUST-DRAFT: Why the San Jose Sharks Should SELECT Chase Reid With the No. 2 Pick

San Jose Sharks face a pivotal draft decision: is Chase Reid the right choice to anchor their blue line for years to come? JD Young builds a compelling case for selecting the dynamic 6’2” right-handed defenseman with the second overall pick, emphasizing Reid’s elite skating, puck-moving ability, and offensive upside. With a strong OHL stat line and comparisons to NHL greats like Phil Housley and Seth Jones, could Reed become the cornerstone the Sharks desperately need?

Key highlights include scouting insights praising Reid’s four-way mobility, shot, and transition play, as well as his high hockey IQ and potential to quarterback a top power play unit. Analysis covers how Michigan State could be the perfect development spot and what Reed’s arrival means for the Sharks’ defensive future. Will San Jose prioritize organizational need with Reed, or seek a different direction to complete their rebuild?

  1. I was originally in the Stenberg no matter what camp, but the more I watch Reid, the more I think he should be the pick. A potential top pairing right-shot defenseman with high-end offensive upside might be too tempting for GMMG to pass on…

Reid or Stenberg, either way the Sharks can’t go wrong, imo.

  2. Honestly I'm just so stocked for pick 2. I trust Grier, Morehouse and Fitzgerlad have done their homework and will get stud no matter who the pick ends up being

  3. The case for Chase Reid: NHL commissioner, Gary Bettman, allows Toronto to select both McKenna and Stenberg with their first pick.

Grier then selects the next highest-rated prospect on their board.

  4. Stenburg is a Stud! And will be ready to play in the NHL, he played with men in the European league. I like Chase, but he will have to develop in the AHL. We need a player to back up Big Mac. Get our Defenseman on the off season.
