Darnell Nurse REQUESTS Trade | Oilers Fan Reaction & Discussion

1. I was VERY hard on Darnell Nurse. But his contract was always Ken Holland's fault, and to me is the single greatest reason why Edmonton was not able to win at least one Championship during his time here. I wish Nurse all the best wherever he ends up. 🍻

2. Just one minor thing: you said Nurse set the market for Jones – other way around. Bowman signed Jones, Nurse used that as leverage, and Holland gave in

3. DN is worth 5.5 to 6.5.

   That means the oil have to give at least that discount back to the trade partner – either eating 3-4 million and or prospects or picks.

   And that assumes that a 5.5-6.5 million contract player is coming back that the trading partner NO LONGER WANTS. Otherwise it’s more cap, prospects and/or picks who have to be sacrificed by the oil.

   So – not the panacea many think this is.

6. It's such a shame: Darnell Nurse is a guy that you'd love it if the Oilers could keep him on the team, but you know that they can't because of that contract. It'll be a bittersweet day once that trade gets announced.

7. This is tough. Nurse is very serviceable and if it wasn’t for his contract, he’s a decent player who’s actually delivering more value now that he only has two years left in the contract. So, it’s our spoil and will be someone else’s gain. I just hope we get a totally different player in return and we can resign Murph.

17. So many GMS screw up in Edmonton the only way you're trading Donald nurse if you retain 75% of the contract

19. Darnell Nurse wants out because Babs will call him out for all his defensive liabilities until he shapes up; then gets shipped out. Darnell Nurse doesn't have any amazing upsides for the cost of his contract. He'll be reminded of that fact up until he improves his game and then gets traded.

    Danrell should be getting ready for the grinder because that's the only way to increase his value on the open market. Trade him… sure to who? Darnell has to prove he can bring something of value to table first I have to assume. If Darnell wants out before Christmas.. he has to earn it. Of course I'm assuming there won't be an explosion of stupidity among the managerial class running the NHL teams. General managers seem to make silly mistakes leading up to the draft and shortly after. We'll see what happens.

    There is always the remote chance that Darnell rediscovers a love for team and the mission plan. Again… that's up to Darnell to discover and decide. More stupid player agent, player, team dynamic stupidity drama that's taking over the NHL play offs.

    Damn it… can't we just watch the finals and enjoy them; like we're supposed to be able to without the soap operas?

20. Oilers put selves in a challenging posn: Have Jarry & jCampbell signed for 2 & 4 yrs…. w Jarry GAA near 4 & SV% among lowest(.858). Bottom 6 lines usually determine championships: entire signed Oil 'bottom 6' scored 10 goals total last yr… w Frederic(-15) leading the bottom6 at $3.9m/yr… & Janmark (-8) $1.5m.
    D is critical too w Walman(-17/$49m) & Emberson(-1) signed as 3rd pair. So NO 2nd PAIR signed… but can HOPE to sign UFA's -Regula(-16) & Stastney(-10) are below NHL level… Oilers top2 lines are ok… but not so strong to carry all this. … plus whatever Nurse CAP they will have to carry fwd…

23. So, after getting to listen to the entire video, I think I'm inline with your take. Nurse isn't a terrible player by any means, he just has that terrible contract, which is not his fault.

    There are certainly aspects of his game that this team will miss, but……. there are some they won't too. All in all, I don't dislike Darnell the person by any means, and like most players that move on from this team, I do wish the guy well.

    He is, and can be a valueable player on another team. Here's hoping Bowman doesn't get bent over like he did with Skinner. 🍻

24. The end of the Edmonton Oilers for years to come. This is the result of the Bowman Jackson massacre and so it goes on. Babcock? WTF? Once 97 and 29 are gone, this team has nothing. Hyman yes, but nothing else. Completely destroyed.
