Stevie Y played for 14 years before he won a Cup he was literally on some of the worst teams this franchise has ever seen in the late 80's he didn't piss and moan about it. Larkin was never a leader and this proves it
There was immediate shock, then everyone started thinking and was like welllll actually this might be a good thing. Gives the team leverage without sacrificing the farm system. ETA Larkin thrives being a supporting role on national teams because he's not THE guy. Heavy is the head that wears the crown and such.
My take: Dylan Larkin just made himself the next Jonathan Drouin. Don't be surprised to see Dylan in a Wings jersey to start next year with no C
This is either going to be good for both sides, or it is going to mean another decade of no playoffs
We appreciate the dedication to the team and city through and through. Always a highlight when a new episode drops…… usually needed when there red wings news😂
If Larkin refuses to go to the team offering Detroit the best deal, then don't trade him. The new cap allows the DRW to eat his 8.7 mil contract and sit him in the press box. After sitting out perhaps twenty or more games he might change his mind and allow the trade. He's not as good as he thinks he is. On a contending team he would be the second or third line center. But, because of the limited amount of trade market, DRW a can still get a good offer package.
If it isn't a good trade for the Wing's, keep him!
We all must apologize to Aziz today.
I predicted this quite a while ago. I don't know how to go back and look at my posts. He voiced his frustrations at the end of last year. You could see this coming! I admit i thought it would have been kept behind closed doors. Reset 2.0 time in Detroit.
SteveY's plan was to build a team through the draft. He has collected more than fifty prospects. Some haven't progressed even at the AHL level. BUT< some have. Let's load the team with his draft picks and prove it. The prospects don't need three or four years to become "men". If the prospects don't pan out, then bring up others.
I’d be shocked if Sunny would do Nico + #12. Also does Nico want to be in Det or would he want out too?
As you all said it comes down to how many teams he’s willing to go to for leverage. If there are 6+ teams Nico may be possible get. If he’s 1 of 3 teams I doubt it.
This leaking def not ideal. Did Larkin’s side leak it so teams would have leverage and have to give up less back on his way out?!🤨🤔🧐
Larkin will try and come back when we are going for a cup and I say we tell him to fuck off. If you don’t wanna believe now then you ain’t coming back to get carried to a cup
I kinda look at this like the Stafford situation
Maybe fans don't think he's as valuable as some teams believe he is hopefully the return is great and can improve this team
Send him to SJ for the 2nd overall plus. Then Debrincat Kane Faulk traded in the summer or at the deadline. Maybe move Gibson if he plays well. Frederick Andersen has people believing in mid-late 30s goalies again. They would be very bad next year and would have a PILE of picks to build around Mo and Raymond. Re-sign Debrincat next summer after they win the draft lottery.
Where the heck is the owner in all this???. MIA… they should sell the Wings and the Tigers to someone who wants a winner. The old man was a gamer!!! Don't see this with his Kid.
From a fan perspective he has really screwed the organization and the fans. Not happy with him or the front office. I would be very surprised if Yzerman is equipped to turn this around.
Give Cat the C and I think he’ll stay lol
From Yzerman's point of view, he is not surviving another retool or rebuild. He has to replace Larkin, get another good forward, and make the playoffs this season or his job is done. So I really don't see him letting Debrincat go without getting a big return.
If he can’t get traded that actually benefits Detroit, keep a healthy scratch until he waives his no movement. Fuck him
Dumpster fire organization. How will the Steve bots cope with this one?
Wings need to mutually agree to part ways with Yzerman, fire Draper, the North American amateur scouts and gut the pro scouting department. Then bring in a competent staff to handle this trade and start a new rebuild. This team is going nowhere soon.
As a Wings fan, this is a gut punch but the Yzerplan has worked out as well as the Van Der Linde plan on RDR2.
I don’t think Yzerman lets him go. Yzerman could retool even with a half hearted Larkin in the team. That is, until Larkin agrees to go to a team that’s willing to pay Yzerman dearly for him. To me it seems Yzerman has all the leverage right now: still uncomfortable, but Yzerman holds the keys.
Having the name Jack Daniels rips
Everyone dogging Larkin, just crazy. He’s the only guy playing hard out there. Plays through injuries, and the rest of the team are just passengers. They’re a boring team to watch, and Yzerman’s moves have been shit. Whether that’s because of ownership, who knows. They’re constantly getting players past their prime at the deadline which brings them backwards. The only redeeming quality for the Red Wings are Ken and Mickey at this point.
Larkin to Anaheim for McTavish and what ever…
Yzerman mismanaged this team
This core would have never won a cup. Its good for everyone involved except for the release of the information.
I can't even blame Larkin fully for wanting a trade it's been 10 years.Three head coaches two different regimes with Ken Holland and Steve Yzerman. It's a front office issue. It shouldn't take 7 years to build a playoff team this is on Steve.
I just keep telling myself, “if Buffalo fans can go through pain and make it out, so can I.” But this is tough!
Can't say I'm surprised or that I blame Larkin, this is a team spinning it's wheels in the mud going nowhere.
I think what's more telling about this conversation is the fact that we have a recently ranked top 4 prospect pool and Max is legitimately saying if we lose Debrincat and Larkin, than Seider and Raymond's window is gone too. That's essentially what it boils down too. You make a distinction saying unless they get someone around their age, which is wishful thinking – which you just laid out saying there's not many players that fit their window and that are available.
Max, It sounds like to me, the only way you see this team being successful is only one way. Larkin has to net a return in their prime age similar to Seider and Raymond, which is now. That, as you laid out, is highly unlikely. So why not state the obvious. By your logic, we should be selling Raymond and Seider. That's exactly what your position is but your being a bit cowardly about it.
If larkin somehow doesnt get moved instead of booing or cheering crowd should just be completely silent every time he gets puck or name announced
Honestly i can see both sides in this and there is no clear side who is in fault, both are…
Here's my two arguments in how i see it; To defend Larkin i would argue that Yzerman didn't have to be this patient to play "real meaning hockey", that some comments been about "Yzerman had to wait until deep into his 30s to win", which is THE CUP, is would guess this wouldn't have happen if Detroit been bounced in the first round atleast a couple more years of playoffs since Larkins rookie year. According to Stevie Y's EP page he missed the playoffs his rookie season and his 4th NHL season over his 22 NHL seasons. Larkin has played half of that amount of seasons now and only gotten 5 playoff games… It sucks but i don't blame him actually entering his 30s now with so little taste of actual success. Now, he shares the blame in us not getting there but overall i think he's been more then patient and nobody should throw crap on him for simply WANT TO WIN, more then caring about money and security (which he obviously gets in his hometown of Detroit)
To defend Yzerman, i do think it takes a ton of time to build a legit cup contender (heck even a playoff team in the lethal division we are playing in) and he have drafted well. He did make Larkin the highest paid player on this team and part of the organization's failure to take the next step sure falls on Larkin's head aswell. Injurys excuse only takes you that far, facts are that Larks have faded more then most on his team when it matters the most…
It's not a black and white answer, but MAYBE this is a blessing in disguise, MAYBE this is what had to happen for us to finally take the last step. Once you get over the first shock of this you start to think that this could actually benifit the team a lot, the no trade clause is a thing but… It is honestly the best time to move Larkin if you want to maximize the return… He is still in his prime and he have a very good value contract with term left that should be attractive from other teams. There is a MAJOR void on centers in the market and the free agency is empty. There will be a bunch of suiters for Larkin, who raised his value in the Olympics and if the asking price was 4-5 1st rounders of equal for guys like Trocheck & Thomas (which i would argue Larkin is above both in value), you have to believe it would be atleast the same for us. It all comes down to how and where Larkin would waive his NTC ofcourse but it SHOULD atleast be a decent return that hopefully would shake this team up enough to get back on track. But this likely means Detroit would be worse for it next 1-3 years but could be worth it if they turn that into the double of time they are able to contend.
Now this is just me and maybe im far off, maybe the other team in question have zero interest or Larkin have zero interest going there, but i would look HARD at San Jose and see if that 2nd overall pick is available, like it's been rumoured to be. Maybe they see Larkin as the perfect 2C behind Celebrini and maybe they feel it's time to make more moves to bring in prime young-ish veteran players like Larkin. They sure has stocked their pool and they honestly don't "need" Stenberg like we would. If not him i would look at Michael Misa or simular high regarded young elite level upside player who could play in NHL right away (which i believe Stenberg would aswell)… Anyways just some thoughts, it's kind of sad thinking about this and Larkin have been a fav player of mine ever since he got drafted (we share the same birthday aswell lol) but hopefully this could help Detroit in the long run more then it messes things up in the near future. #lgrw
Larkin needed to go. It's not working out, this is best for the team. On a cup contending team Larkin is AT BEST a 2C. Some playoff teams this season he might have even slipped to 3C with how he played down the stretch.
He doesn't seem to have the leadership strength to get this team over the hump.
He showed he performed much better on team USA when he wasn't a leader.
This team needs a dressing room dynamic shake up. How many times can Todd hint at it in one season? Every other presser was "I can't make the guys care".
Larkin was defeated with 3-4 weeks left in the season, his play after Christmas was pathetic. The fact he showed up in Feb for team USA and played his ass off only makes his play for the Wings even more annoying.
Get rid of him, try to secure another low end 1C + maybe a pick for him, and aim to pick up some depth in free agency.
Bring the young guys up for a full season, get rid of the Ras and Comphers of the world. See what happens.
People panicking "Gosh I hope we don't get worse!?". Than what? Imploding in 3 straight seasons to miss the playoffs while sitting at 90% odds on March 1st? How can it get worse? We suck
Im looking forward to Larkin getting booed continuously when he plays at LCA.
Even better, let's get all the Red Wing Fans to order and deliver Little Ceasars Pizza to his hotel room.
I dont see it much as leverage, larkin just signed a long term deal its not like he can leave for nothing because hes a UFA after next year, Yzerman does not have to trade him
Still in shock. This is not good from any pov especially from well within the organization.
