Love that every team wants to be a slum lord now….
It's nice to hike Katy Trail near the AA Center. I like that area. Plano is also nice. They can't make it into a mall. Nobody goes to the mall anymore. 😁
Las vegas mavericks
Abandon a city? Since when is David concerned with hurt feelings and loyalty? Progress.
Nothing of value will be lost. Good riddance to the billionaires who hate socialism unless the government is paying them.
There's zero parking in downtown Dallas and the vast majority of Stars & Mavs fans drive to games. And there is no EMPTY space in downtown Dallas at the moment. Also Plano & North Dallas are basically Dallas…This isn't like the Cowboys going to Arlington
Most people in a city don’t live downtown. That’s the business district, and in many cities, the homeless district. There’s usually some fun things to do, but moving closer to where people just live would alleviate traffic and bring more entertainment to the suburbs. I like these moves personally.
Lotta businesses are leaving downtown because they don’t like how it’s run nowadays and now they’re suffering the consequences from it because of cities being incompetent
To paraphrase the guy in the McDonalds movie: “You’re not in the sports entertainment business, you’re in the real estate business.”
Anyone who’s lived in that 635/Preston Rd area (vacant Valley View Mall site) where the Mavs’ new location will be is just going to get even worse now.
For the Stars, Plano (Willow Bend site) just seems like a better option for the team. Plus, you’ll get more diehard fans willing to drive out that way anyways…
Both teams are moving to where the greatest population growth is occurring. Simply look at a map of the metroplex zoomed out to see the entire view. Look at the shape of the metro area outside of the 635 loop. The suburbs to the north reach nearly 25 mi. outside of that loop while most people living on theeast and south sides outside the loop live within 5-10 mi. of 635. Both teams are moving closer to the new population center. Also, you have to analyze this with an understanding that it is a drive-first metro area. Therefore, driving distance and parking are key factors in game attendance. Downtown Dallas struggles to meet the needs of fans.
FYI Plano is not a "neighborhood", it's a suburb north of Dallas with 300,000 people…
Steve Cohen is Building a Casino in the Citi-Field Parking Lot to Get People to Come to Area on Non-Game Days. There's Also a MLS Stadium Being Build Across the Street from Citi-Field.
The Bronx is part of NYC. About as far from being a a suburb as you can get.
Queens is part of NYC; Flushing is about as unsuburban as you can get.
Both teams are moving for sure? Naming rights for new stadium.
Coming from the same guy that applauded the Atlanta Braves' Battery ancillary development for Truist Park.
