  1. Well, for the rivalty between Montréal and Toronto, this would be awesome!!
But leafs fans will make him blow his lit off… or he's gones call every fans for their bad behaviour. ….. and the players too…. can't wait to see willy get his ass kick

  2. I really hope they don't hire Roy. I don't think he has proven that he is a good head coach in this league and I really don't think that he would be a good coach when it comes to developing McKenna and Cowan.

  3. I think Patrick Roy could be great for the Leafs offense. The man loves to run it up, but never really had the offensive firepower in New York to do it.

However, his defensive schemes are not great. He loves big, mean defenders and that doesn't mesh very well with what he wants to do offensively. Unless the Maple Leafs would somehow rebuild their defense with nothing guys that are puck movers who can also crush dudes in the corners, him coaching the Leafs would probably be disastrous (defensively).

  4. This will be the first real test for the new regime. Roy would be a bad move. Better to go with someone with a new mindset, no baggage.

  5. Discussing hiring based on if they are a "Barker" when your Captain gets cheap shot and not one member of the team steps up to defend him??? You have actually lost your minds.

  6. It makes ZERO sense to hire Roy. The issue is management wont try and trade the players who are big babies who don't like to be yelled at or face criticism so why would you higher someone who is KNOWN for yelling and giving criticism.

  7. You know what I love about the SDPN podcast? I don't feel tired after. I noticed that I feel exhausted after listening to alot of podcasts. With SDPN I don't.

  8. Other than a totally unknown minor league coach, I would not recommend any known and experienced coach in the NHL and American League’s to take this coaching coach in Toronto. Reasons you asked? Lots of the players are underachiever’s, unmotivated and overpaid. Not to mentioned the fans expectations are through the roof. Therefore, in a year or two at most, whomever becomes the head coach, will loose his job. You have to rebuild with players that have desire to compete and win.

  9. Tochett is a terrible coach. Roy has had a roster tear down (Avs) and a roster build up (NYI) to navigate. I think he'd be good for young guys.

  10. Laviolette is old and cranky, he just yells, it will not work. Roy is calm, composed and a legend, you could clearly see the Islanders got better when he got in and get worse when he left.
Roy is a perfect fit and will take care of Matthews and McKenna. also : a winner! Laviolette is a born loser.

  11. The coach is integral, however, the additions and subtractions from the roster are paramount to the success of both the team and the coach. Treliving chose poorly in both areas. And here we are. Tre gone, Berube gone and the lottery win is the only thing that prevented a full on rebuild. So Mats and John better get the player personnel right or the Coaching Hire won't matter.

  12. Roy was a massive boost to Matthew Schaefer’s rookie season. Pushed against management and gave him all the minutes … and he thrived. He may not be a great coach but he’s not nearly as bad as people portray him to be
