The Canadiens had a great season, even an awesome season. Even though they ran out of gas and some guys had some nagging injuries, they are ahead of schedule on their rebuild . If they could find a big right shot shut down D man and a 6 ' 2" second line centre they'll be in great shape moving fwd. Let's all root for Mitch to win his first cup this series.
100% successful season
Dobes carried them basically the entire playoffs n the Canes were good enough to crack him, unlike Buffalo n Tampa. It’s really that simple… Put montembault in net n the Habs lose in 5 to Tampa, let’s be really
It wasn't rookie mistakes that sunk them, it was a poor coaching system. Dobeš as a rookie goalie took them all the way to the top of the standings and the conference finals, he stole them several crucial games and was basically fighting on his own vs Carolina.
Hopefully Reinbacher improves their defence, but they're not in as good a position as it seems if you're only working off their age.
This team, 5 years into its rebuild, just had their first 100 PTS & 50 G players in decades and made it to the conference finals.
Like, there's literally no other way to see it; This season was an absolute success.
Look around – The only medias trying to convince people that the Habs have a bunch of issues and are disappointing are… Toronto medias 😂 Which says a lot more about Toronto than Montreal… Then again, I guess the salt comes easy when you see a team of kids accomplishing more this year alone than the Maple Leafs did in decades, even when they were on top of the conference year after year with superstars on the roster…
But don't worry; People in Montreal don't care. It was a great year. Have fun boys, enjoy the summer, go see concerts if you want(crazy, right?), and we'll get back to work in a few months with the same goal as every year; Getting better. It's been working quite well so far.
But it's all love, I love you guys ❤️
I don't know how you couldn't call it but a success. A young talented team; with great coaching and management. I also see tremendous camaraderie and team spirit amongst the players (as opposed to a team ofter discussed on this channel). Nothing but blue skies from now on. They will get bigger, and meaner. They have a huge runway as well. Carolina was a much older team. Wouldn't Matthews look great as their top centre for the next few years…..
They have 2 players I would work to turn into Tim Kerr 2.0 and 2.1 (or one of these into a bigger Gallagher) convert Xhekaj (or have him play both d and offense) and use his size and skills and make him a premier garbage man. His brother as well, or a bigger meaner Gallagher. They could give identity to the 3rd and 4th lines. Should for a 2C and a right D. Asset management thereafter. Meaning not be too in love with anyone, including Dobes (or Fowler) and if either get too expensive, trade before they become UFAs (sometime away) and same goes for anyone where they can get value that they can replace. They have a huge window, lots of assets, and they need to smart to stretch that window and reap as much success as they can, because unless they trade for it forget any top 5 to top 10 picks, so their scouts, their development and the deft they use managing what they have becomes key
Call it what it really is – they finished off top 3 out of 32 teams.
Adam, self-absorption leads to thinking others are obsessed with you.
Would you call it a failure? Not being cheeky. If it is not a failure, how would you describe it?
The question Adam open with is success = winning the cup. That itself is not wrong, but do we want to judge Habs season with that lens?
There is only one team a year that is successful. Leafs never get partial credit, neither should the Habs or any other team for that matter.
Buy Jussi, and give me a -60 birtday present.
So proud of my habs. they outperformed expectations by far and its gonna get even better as slaf gets even more beast mode and demidov is just beginning his career
they overachieved and full credit to them. Expect them again to be a playoff team but Florida Carolina and Tampa Bay, all things being equal are a step above.(for now)
hutson need his devon toews, he can do whatever he wants with the puck but the second he pass to struble the play is dead
I was hoping for 2 post-season wins (compared to the 1 from last season). They are so far above and beyond expectations that I don't think anything major is required. The talent is there, they just got beat up after playing 19 games and didn't have the experience and maturity to push any further.
Good time to be a Habs fan.
Habs fan here. It took the Canes only one game to adjust, and they were the better team ever since. Good podcast with objective dialogue, fellas. Cheers!
Oh ya let's hear what Steve Dangle has to say …. smfh
habs made top four. No changes needed just let them grow
Youngest team in the league get to the ECF which is already crazy, but they seriously need a 2C and a serious RHD to play with Hutson.
It was a success when they reached game 7 with Tampa.
2 games went to OT… if habs score in OT in game 2 and 3, its a different story.
Just sign mcdavid in 2 years
This loss to Carolina was the best thing that could have happened to the Habs… Gorton and Hughes saw all they needed to see to understand what they need to go for it. They have picks and prospects to get what they need to fill the gaps… they went to the ECF without a bonafide 2C… as for people saying it was all Dobeš… do they say that about Carter Hart and Vegas? Do the say it about Andersen and the Canes? Dobeš is part of the team and when he plays well the team wins
We couldn’t have asked for any more from such a young team. I haven’t been happier with the team in a long time and they’re only getting better
Pretty fair assessment boys. Add we’re too polite and you’ve nailed it. Gotta get a bit bigger & nastier.
Does this Adam clown actually believe Kent Hughes is obsessed with Toronto or is he just spewing more delusional Leaf fan nonsense? Kent Hughes has done a terrific job with the Habs rebuild and has not used Maple Leaf template in any way to help accelerate the rebuild. Kent has far better things to do than be obsessed with the inept Toronto Maple Leaf franchise
The Suzuki line didn’t do much 5v5 because they are missing a true 2nd line center to take the pressure off them. Need an established energy line. Habs have the firepower. Grinders and some size
I like the Canadians. But I am not a devoted fan. I watch the entire league. 1. Let Dach, Veleno, walk. Trade Gallagher and Monty. Sign Mason Marchman or AJ Greer. Trade for a #2 center .( McTavish, )
Kent Hughes' comment about Mitch Marner is a thinly vailed warning to the Montreal media not start bashing on it's own players. We already saw how ugly it can get with the Kirby Dach incident after game 2 against Tampa. I know teams aren't supposed to complain about that, but we're essentially seeing in real time just how cruel and unfair the Montreal market can be. Two years ago, the team was picking 5th overall, then last year they made the first round and lost in 5, and yet everyone was ecstatic just at the sight of progress. This year they get to the conference final, against all odds. Now I would call that significant progress, but the media's not cheering for progress anymore, now they're criticizing. Once this market has a taste of success, no matter how small, failure is no longer acceptable. I wouldn't be surprised that if Montreal isn't off to a spectacular start, and if they don't compete for first in the East, and if they don't make it back to the conference final, and make it competitive, then people will start asking for heads to roll. That's how insane this market is, and then they wonder why some players have difficulty performing here.
They beat the 5th place and the third place team in the league. They lost to the second place team in the conference final. Anybody that says they were lucky to be here is out of their minds.
I think the better question to ask is, "what steps do they need to take to ensure that this season's successes become the standard rather than the exception?" Because nobody could reasonably call this season anything other than a rousing, objective success. They did something 28 other teams would have begged and pleaded to do, financially, culturally, yiu name it.
If they want to get aggressive in their search for a legit 2C, I welcome that. If they feel that they potentially have one in Oliver Kapanen, I'd welcome giving him an extended look there next season. They've got 4 years left in this "the top line is under great contracts" window, so I'm not in a big rush either way. If they could somehow wrestle, say, Dylan Strome from the Capitals (whose window is just about shut), I think that's exactly the type of player they should pursue IF that's what they do.
Awesome season for the Habs. They’re on the right path and this playoff run showed what they need to add and change. Desperately need that second line centre, bruising annoying to play against right side d-man and another guy like Anderson in the bottom six.
Habs got absolutely crushed
You can't look at this series in isolation. Carolina was fresh and ready to go, while the Canadiens were physically drained from two Game 7s. The Canadiens had beaten that team four times in a row. Carolina then beat them four times in a row.
I hate how it ended but I loved the journey to get there. It was overall a very successful season
Dumb podcast how can you be in the best 4 teams out of 32 and not be a success
This is a training arc for the habs, they'll be fine
The season was an objective success. I wish we could've had a better showing in the ECF, but where we were last year, compared to this?
No way to be anything but elated.
Jesus Christ Yes
Final four, they put those young men through playoff university and now they’re better prepared for more in the future
Hard to admit, but you can’t think of their playoff season as anything less than a resounding success. They reached their goal and surpassed it at least twice and arguably 3 times over by winning more games than last year, then winning a series, then winning another series, then being a dumb offside call away from being tied 2 games to 2 with the expected cup champion. (Could easily have been 3-1 Habs with those OT games). Anyone arguing this team is a fraud is really just jealous or simply not familiar with what they did. Being the better team in 5 of the 7 games vs both Tampa (though it was close) and Buffalo (Habs easily better) in't just NOT fraudulent it’s downright dominant. To do all this as the youngest team in the league (2nd youngest now since getting Danault, and soon to be youngest again without Gallagher), and as a team STILL REBUILDING (yes Buffalo, Habs are rebuilding) while breaking individual records left & right… GMs will be following the Canadiens’ operating model for years. And many will fail at it. Congratulations to the entire Canadiens organization. This is the worst they’ll be for the next decade. Enjoy the ride.
Imagine everything the Leafs have to work on if the Habs needs to work on everything…
Totally unexpected the Montreal run was .And Montreal will keep there players past where Marner age is now. The Grass is so green , in Montreal. So proud of these guys. Every year they will grow stronger, only to go deeper in the playoffs.
