They say old habits die hard. I used to be a big fan of the Canadiens way back in the 70s, and one the problems they've always had since their fall from grace was that they didn't check/forecheck . I stopped watching hockey since the mid 80s , but have watched the odd Montreal game since, and today I can see they have that same style of not checking. You can can see this especially when the other team was on a powerplay. They would skate into the Canadiens zone and pass the puck around practically unchallenged. And Montreal would just form this box, and would NOT challenge the guys at the point, and you just knew that a goal was going to be scored against them. Yes, they were a man short, but you got to challenge the point men. You got to forecheck, man

Not a fan but I think Habs fans have every reason to be excited for the future. Going to the ECF this early in their rebuild is an insane success; there are teams that haven't even sniffed the conference final in DECADES. The Habs prospect pool is still top 5 in the league even with all the stars they've been graduating the last few years. Cap space is healthy, tons of assets to use to acquire more talent, you guys have it so good lol. Canes are a wagon, this result shouldn't shock anyone honestly.
