They’re noticing the audience overlap
the Sharks weren't gifted the #2 pick (when they should've gotten #9 based on the standings) so they could waste it on a soft small swedish winger on a stacked young forward/prospects sharks org. it was to gift us a #1 franchise top pairing RD in Chase Reid. likewise, a franchise #1 top pairing LD in Matthew Schaeffer wasn't rugged from us to leave us with nothing. Chase Reid is our Matthew Schaeffer, but a righty (we already got our #1 LD in Sam Dickinson, Pepperidge Farm r'members). we got a #1b franchise center in Misa (to 1-2 punch it with 'brini). two top centers, two top D, two top goalies (asky and ravensburger, and maybe even Kirsh to form a nabby/toskala/kipper situation). wingers are a dime a dozen. a werenski/fox comparable is far more valuable than a nylander comparable. musty and chernyishov and eklund and graf aren't slouches, folks. stenberg is legit, gonna be a huge threat (and i'd even trade smith for the #3 pick to get him) but we didn't come this far to become the cupless leafs/oilers. we would've scored #1 overall if it was our fate to waste it on a small winger.

GMMG is a BPA GM. Stenberg and McKenna are the two BPAs in this draft, but whom ever GMMG selects I will 100% support it.
Teams do not build their roster using the draft, or fill open slots in their prospect pool. A GM drafts the best and most projectable talent regardless of what is or is not in their prospect pool.
Take Ravensbergen last season. No need for a goalie, but still GMMG takes him. Why? Because he was the Sharks BPA at that pick.
Same with Misa last draft. I have not heard one scout say Reid is a better prospect than Stenberg and those same scouts cannot even agree whether Reid is the best defenseman in this draft.
Those scouts are arguing how much of a reach taking Reid is, but they all agree it would be a reach. And drafting fir need is a major mistake.
The Devils can attest to that with Nemec. They drafted Nemec for the same reason many Sharks fans are saying why GMMG should pick Reid. I bet they would rather have had the next three picks if they could redo it. Sharks fans most likely with think the same if Reid becomes what he most likely projects to be – a middle pair RD.
Stenberg/McKenna at second overall if the Sharks make the pick for me.
