TRADE TARGET: Could Elias Pettersson be the solution at 2C?

TRADE TARGET: Could Elias Pettersson be the solution at 2C?

  1. I do not care, sometimes you have to take risks. Why is no one talking about Patrik Laine? Sign him in free agency for cheap. He still has potential, and a fresh start in Detroit could change everything. Imagine Elias pettey and Laine on this team next year. If they both bounce back, suddenly you have two legitimate top six producers. Worst case scenario, they do not work out and we are in the same position anyway, but the overall floor of the roster is still raised compared to the original lineup. Pettey carries more risk than Laine because of the contract situation, but the upside is there for both and could revamp this team with other trades and signings.

  2. It's time to either see if our mystery boxes are a boat or if we should trade the mystery boxes before they get opened, and we get two tickets to a comedy show if we're lucky. Hi Jonatan Berggren. 👋

  3. It's a shame people don't even know what the issues facing the wings are. They don't need a #2C. They need a #1C. I like Larkin, but he is not a championship level #1C. He is an incredibly good #2C. EP could potentially be an answer, but several years of subpar play makes that a very risky proposition. I myself would not risk it. The wings have done a great job of collecting talent. The problem is, they mostly collected it in two spacific areas. They have collected good two-way centers (Kasper, Danielson, Copp, Compher… and Larkin as well). Some are a little more offensive and some are a little more rugged, but they are all the same thing. The other area is big, mobile Defensemen. Sider, Edvensson, Walander, Buium… they are all the same guy. They also have quite a collection of goalie prospects. On the other end, have also collected some unique talents as well. Bear, MBN, Mazer, and ASP. It is important that they keep those unique assets, but they need to swap some of the redundant ones for what they need. Being that they are looking for a top end center, it is going to cost a lot. I would be looking for a deal like Edvensson + whatever equals it out for a Michael Misa. SJ is loaded with centers but are very thin on young defenders. Edvensson would be a huge gain for them, and Misa would be the exact dynamic offensive center we need. If we could swing a deal like that, we would then have too many centers. It would be foolish to have two top 10 picks playing 3rd and 4th line center. I would attempt to use one of them to replace Edvensson with a more offensive defenseman to pair with Sider. As an example, Buffalo loves Kasper and they will not be able to pay all four of their defensemen. I would be looking at guys like Byram or Powers. Losing Edvensson would sting, but getting last year's #2 pick would be a huge plus.

  4. Finally. One of the only two guys we need to worry about. Not saying we'll get them, but Petterson and Robertson should be all Yzerman cares about until they're off the table.

  5. Come on, guys, you both know Yzerclown won't conclude any trades of significance. Has he ever??? ZERO PLAYOFFS after 25 years of always. Maybe it's just Illich and his lack of care for the Detroit fans. Red Wings and Tigers.

  6. This is probably one of the only trade options out there that seems realistic. Pettersson would likely benefit from a change and would easily slot in on the 2nd line. It would leave a little room to add a top 6 LW as well.

  7. I wouldn’t be worried about trading 4 first round pics for Bedard. He’s 22 years old and he would have him till he’s 28. He has been playing well and it’s only gonna get better. We don’t need to trade for someone that isn’t playing well. The whole team isn’t playing well. We need to trade assets and draft picks for good players. Look at Vegas they trade good young players and draft picks for really good young players. Marner and Eichel. Now they’re in the cup finals. They didn’t go out and trade for crap. and not sure what this 2C is that you’re talking about the wings need a 1C

  8. Pettersson for 2c and Alex tuch for the top 6 and the top 6 looks much better this next season. They can still afford to sign Simon even if they get both those guys

  9. I'm just gonna repeat myself but whatever, i believe THIS is what Detroit need to do, swing big for players who arnt past their prime already (like Faulk, Perron, Copp, Compher blabla puckups) or damn near them (like a 33yo Vincent Trocheck would be)… Outside of the obvious (should just clear house in bottom six and FINALLY start give the youth a legit shot there), our biggest issue (atleast after doing another overpaid patchjob short time solution on the 2nd pair with Faulk that im not a fan of but whatever it is what it is now, atleast for upcomming season should be DECENT top 4, aslong as Chiarot is left out of it and a guy like Aljo or even Wallinder who isnt waiver exempt anymore, will grab it) is still the 2C AND scoring;

    My guy would be EP40 because he, atleast in theory, could solve multiple issues on this team at once. And YES, I totally get it why some are very causious with Elias Pettersson and I heard it all before, his last two years have fallen of a cliff, sure yeah… But that is also the ONLY reason a 26 year old former 100 point player is available to begin with = you aint finding that for certain anywhere else; those types of players other teams are not trading nor let them hit the UFA status until mid to late 30s. Yes it comes with some risk obviously but like Fedorov said on his jersey retirement night "sometimes the biggest risks gives you the biggest rewards"…

    Unless you actually want us to give up 5 first rounders of value for a 33 year old Vincent Trocheck and you more realistically then anything might get a good year out of him but then your back with another Copp/Compher at 2C and Larkin is also realistically sooner then later gonna be a 2C, heck even with all his injures a 3C, in the near future… Atleast a guy like Pettersson gives you POTENTIAL of re-discover himself as a true elite #1C with above a point per game guy that he was up until 24 years old, then his entire team crashed and burned. The very definition a "new scenery guy". Whats your option really?

    I guess Robert Thomas, but he don't have same 1C elite superstar upside in him, he is more like Larkin honestly is, best suited as a 2C AND he will cost atleast tripple what EP40 does, simply because of the contract. No, you have to take some risk to get rewards, period. There is also a reason Pettersson wears #40, he was born in Sundsvall and he was playing for Timrå (which is Sundsvalls SHL hockey team) from the time he learned to skate up until his draft year, where Henrik Zetterberg is still considered legend status probably even bigger then in Detroit. So he naturally grew up idolizing him & the Detroit Red Wings = he likely would waive his NMC for Detroit alone which would lower the cost even more (like it did with DeBrincat coming here where we basically only had to give up a late round first round pick in value).

    There is A LOT here speaking that it would be a successful pickup. I would think EP40 would also be very motivated to play in the same jersey his hockey idol and the team he grew up cheering for, perfect fit with all the swede history and him and Raymond looked great together in the olympics. I mean whats not to like? Yes the contract is big and he have not played up to it recently, so? Only Chicago has more cap space then us in the leauge and the cap is skyrocketing next few years making his contract will be the going rate for a 2C in just a year or two. People need to wake up and realize you aint getting true star caliber players anywhere else but drafting them yourself, and newsflash guys like Kasper/Danielson is more closer to Copp/Compher in realistic outcome then anything. With a guy like Pettersson, you atleast has a chance to get one, with already an discounted cost. You aint getting players still in the middle of their prime who have PROVEN they can put up elite numbers, 100 points, when did Detroit have that last time?

    Do you people seriously think other teams are gonna make their own true legit 1C star players available any other way? This aint a video game, we are in desperate mode to find real true elite offense this offseason, with having zero prospects of our own (with not having drafted top 3 since 1990), you have to TRADE for it.

    Ask yourself the question then; would you rather swing for the fences to give up simular to what you had to give up for DeBrincat (late first round value along with throwing on a contract in that case Kubalik, in this case maybe Vancouver native Rasmussen) for a 26 year old who have a track record of being a legit star up until 2 years agoo OR are you seriously willing to trade up to 5(!!!) first rounds of value to get another "safe" 30+ year old like Trocheck who likely at best will be a marginal upgrade at 2C for 1-2 years… Think about it, really think about it…

  10. Stop pushing this garbage. We already have 2 Pettersons on our team. We need a legit top 50 center, not an overpaid center with line 3 production. This is just another Copp and Compher.

  11. How does a man who can NOT anchor a line in Vancouver help ANYTHING in Detroit??? Jesus, stop with this Pettersson crap. He is the most overrated player in the league. He did well with better players on his line. Like ALL SORTS OF PLAYERS. HE is NOT the reason lines produce, he's a component. Wings need results guys.
