For Avalanche’s Ilya Solovyov, first NHL goal is a story he’ll celebrate with wife, young son

Ilya Solovyov of the Colorado Avalanche scored his first NHL goal, a moment he dedicated to his wife Vlada and son Saveliy. After spending weeks as the team’s seventh defenseman and dealing with family separation, Solovyov finally got an opportunity to play due to an injury. He credited his wife, skills coach Mark Popovic, and a brief conditioning stint in the AHL for helping him stay ready. His hard work paid off as he now has a three-game point streak and is enjoying the moment with his family in Denver. He sees this experience as a valuable lesson he can share with his son about perseverance.
