Giroux is probably my favorite post 2000 Flyer. Love the guy, but NO – this isn't where I want the Flyers to look for improving. I want every dime of cap space and whatnot focused on building for the future. If a player doesnt project for at least 4-5 years, please look elsewhere.

Why pay him 850K? There had to be other goalies they could have gotten for less!
No offense to G, easily one of the best Flyers I've seen in my lifetime, but I'd rather the current Flyers keep on this trend of building up the younger guys rather than grab a golden oldie. Maybe at the deadline if a cup run is is imminent, but otherwise, nah.

From 2011-12 through 2015-16 — a five-season period — Giroux had more points than everyone in the NHL. That includes the prime of the career for Ovechkin, Crosby, Kane, Towes, Kopitar, and many other great players.

Yes, regarding the player development piece – the brain is not fully developed until mid/late 20's. This also coincides with when men are reaching peak physical performance (late 20s to early 30s).

I think the only reason anyone hates on Claude Giroux is because of what happened the 2011/12 playoff series.
He went in there, and we all know what he did. And we all know what his coach said about him after that. Philly fell in love instantly.
But we never truly saw that "edge" from him again after that. He was consistently the best player on the team until the day he got traded, and his points and production were always there. But that edge (I have no better word to describe it) was not. He never again did something like go out there, deck the #1 supervillain in Philly hockey open-ice, and score the opening goal in a game a minute later.
I think that's where the "Giroux doesn't care" narrative comes from, especially after he got the C. He's obviously talented and will never be a detriment to any team he's on, but as Philly fans who watched his entire career unfold, we had the standard of a game-changing powerful superstar set in our minds, and that's more than just goals and assists, it's intensity.
Giroux could come in here, our powerplay would instantly be better (though maybe still not as good as we want/need it to be), can take critical faceoffs, and on that note could probably help the other young players we have learn a thing or two, like with the powerplay and faceoffs.
If he'd be willing to play here on a 1/2 year contract, I think it'd be a great idea. And then he can retire in Philly. The vibes alone would be off the charts.
The tricky thing would be bringing him in as a veteran and not as a locker-room leader.
