The fans don't know everything. We were certain that Shane Wright was going first overall. He dropped to 4th and rightly so in hindsight. It's amazing to me as a hockey fan that fans get outraged by draft picks, like we're experts on the subject. It's like my father when I was a teenager trying to get my swim coach fired because he, a guy who refused to ever get into a swimming pool, thought he knew more than someone who had dedicated his life to it. Sure, scouts and GMs can get things wrong. That's why the 1st overall pick isn't always be the best player in the draft. But scouting has gotten a lot better. And if fans saying no to a player amounts to their nationality, that just proves the sort of ignorance we're dealing with. I was to some extent with fans who wanted Jake Virtanen over William Nylander, so I'm just as guilty. But the difference, is my takeaway was that I don't know everything and I'll enjoy the scouting reports but leave the drafting to the professionals and see how they do. This isn't supposed to be a great draft anyway. But again, we'll see. These are 17 and 18 year old kids. Some may take 3+ years to develop and some won't and other will become stars. Nothing would shock me. I'm also prepared for my fan base to melt down in their white hoods if the Canucks drafted Ivar Stenberg. If he falls to them, he's BPA at the moment. Get over it. None of us have a crystal ball and judging a player by their nationality is bigotry. Don't like it? Either own it or change.

If they want a guy that is currently rated 6th as a top D they would trade down the pick for a nice sweetener and still get the guy they wanted. Or actually pick McKenna and then trade him for the best D package you can get including a current semi-stud and a pick.
