This absolutely had to happen this was a coach nobody was listening to mainly because he had no answer or plan to teach anyone.. they had zero defensive structure and made zero adjustments it waa a team on their own who also can't stand each other nobody stands up for anybody. Steve , although you look a lot older however your mentality is still extremely immature and short sighted. Your theory is try Matthew for another season , if he continues to be a 35 goals player with a new coach then your plan is to trade him because you don’t want him anymore and trade him when everyone in league knows he suck? Do you wait until your car is totally non drive able before you sell it, getting zero returns?

Once the Leafs lost to their own Zamboni driver was probably the time for rhe change…. no disrespect to whoever the coach was at that time but there's clearly much bigger problems with the Leafs organization. Hopefully Matthews is smart enough this off-season to hop off that sinking ship and come back to a country that respects him. I don't even care if he ends up in Florida or Boston but he has to be respected
Crazy that McDavid has had 5 different head coaches, soon to be 6, but Matthews and the leafs get shit on for being in the same situation. The double standard for the star players is wild.

One of the very 1st things I would add to this team is a "thug". Someone like Olivier , Rempe or Xhekaj. This team needs a cop , I pity Gavin McKenna if they don't find one.

Since matthews was drafted the Buffalo Sabres have had 9 total coaches and GM's. The Toronto Maple Leaves are up to 8 💀💀💀
If I had a vote or input into the decision making process for Toronto Maple Leaf's' Head Coach it would be a little guy from the GTA known as Steve Dangle. He could not be or do worse than the others plus he loves this team. Anyway, that's my opinion. "GO LEAFS GO"

Marner should have been a Leaf for life. Toronto's fan base scapegoated a ferrarri for not being a Mack truck.
I wasn't excited about Berube. Yes I know, he (or was it Binnington?) won a Cup in St. Louis. But then what? Nothing else good happened until he got fired. And now he's fired again.
Who cares. This core will never win
Matthews is a loser and so is Nylander. It's the players. Not the GM, not the coaches… maybe the Board… but accountability starts with the players. Trade 'em all. Reilly too!
How much coaches are they paying currently?
Y’all have to realize , the MLSE board has full “ say so “ when it comes to coaching , captains , asst captains, and high paid players. It doesn’t matter what the GM wants.
So , in order to fire Berube , the GM had to ask Pelley to ask the board if he can do it . The reason Dubas was fired was he made a comment about moving on from the “ core 4 “ two days after they’re having a press conference announcing that Dubas was gone.
This is how it works and how it will always work
Dingle Dangle…..Toronto is drafting McKenna. Think of all the jerseys they can sell. Like him or hate him, McKenna has IT. He's lightening in a bottle. He was born with it. You can't pass on a guy like that.
