  1. If Matthews' relatively unproductive season was due to injury, and whatever injury he had is not expected to ever completely heal, then the Leafs need to keep him and hope for the best because they'll never get value back for him in a trade. It's not like every other team won't be aware of his injury status. However, if his lack of production was due in part to him having a hissy fit about the coach (or about whatever), then he's obviously got to go. And if that's the case, the Leafs have to go into complete rebuild mode. They're in a great position to do that considering their draft lottery win. Personally, I was a huge Matthews fan. When he was at his best, I'd take him over anybody else in the league except McDavid, and even then I thought he and McDavid were 1 and 1A. The drop-off with Matthews has obviously changed things in a big way. In my perfect world, he remains a Leaf, regains much if not all of his scoring ability, the Leafs improve their defense and get some more kicks at the playoffs can. I think this past season was so shite that it made the immediate future look grim. And we're talking about the Leafs, so I get the pessimism. But I think they're closer to being contenders than people think. (Though the wildcard is Matthews).

  2. Ok let's look down the road 2years . Mathews will be finished his contact and he might just bolt and we get nothing but maybe we can get a first this year and one the next and a roster D-man .

  3. Reilly for Peterson with canucks eating 3mill a yr at least… both fresh starts and he can play with Willy at center on second line then move John T to 3rd or winger with them "not a bad second line"…and Reilly can be a good mentor to one of those D studs that Canucks will be drafting….Also just thought of this Stolarz back to Florida for anything!! Works for both cause we cant lose Hilderbeast on waivers and whos knows whats happening with Bob.. slam dunk deal for both teams!!!

  4. Berube was a strange hire, given the way the roster was, so this is no surprise. I have no doubt #34 did not want to see him back, so that was a factor, no matter what the GM says. #34 will now want to see who the new coach is before he commits to anything. #34 wants an offensive creative approach, and don't think Cassidy fits that bill. Ticked off to see Leafs falling over themselves to please #34, who I would rather see traded out.

  5. No disrespect Kyp. But Bay Street aren’t the important fans. It’s the regular people that shell out their hard earned money to show up in jerseys instead of suits.

  6. hahahaha what a joke! They hire a bust GM, and he fires a 24-month coach! That organization is so bad it's not even funny. Here are some predictions for all the armchair experts. Shamed, loser GM John Chayka will further tank the team and make it more entertaining by watching that reality rather than watching them play. Mathews will move on, have a proper career, and win a cup. McKenna will follow Mathews, tired of being $hit on by the $hit media, and will eventually pursue a better career elsewhere! I saw the writing on the wall 20 years ago, supporting that abusive joke of an NHL team that now I will actually tune in to see the aftermath of another batch of poor management! I'm actually excited to watch this upcoming season, and it won't be based on more magic beans sold by the Leafs. I will watch them get smoked and regurgitate the same excuses after they don't make the playoffs. lol LOSERS!

  7. Smits is an amazing D-man. Speed, size, skill, IQ. Reminds me of a more physical Heiskanen with an elite shot, He has all the tools to become an elite defender in the NHL.

  8. I know this might sound weird, but getting the first overall pick is the worst thing for the Leafs. Of course they'll get all tingly about taking McKenna, and lose sight of the fact they NEED good, young defencemen, which they would've had no choice but to take at pick 4 or 5. So they'll go with a winger and miss the chance to start building from the back. I know McKenna is good, but it's not what they need. See what happens, I guess.

  9. Getting top picks is no guarantee to be a top team. Look at the Rangers they had multiple top picks. The leafs problem for years has been the lack of D production. You need a certain amount of points from your D to make the playoffs. Look at Colorado D compared to the leafs it's a joke.

  10. Guys, on the way he wants the team to play. You’re totally missing the point. He was saying he didn’t want to bias the hiring process by making a clear statement about how he wants us to play. You guys were calling out KP for giving it all away during his press conference with the whole data thing, and wanting to retool rather than rebuild, and wanting to keep 34 and 88 etc

  11. Sammy and also Nick both misquoted Chayka. He didn't say he got no feedback. He said he didn't solicit feedback. Lawyer type language to side step. He could have had 10 players/agents approach with opinions and still honestly say he didn't solicit feedback.

  12. "Be like Montreal in a few years". That should be the goal. Trade Mathews to San Jose for the 2nd overall and….. Trade Nylander to Vancouver for the 3rd overall and … Draft McKenna 🇨🇦 Draft Malhotra 🇨🇦 Draft Carson Carels 🇨🇦.
    Trade Reily, Carlo, OEL …

  13. 16:38 or you’re hiring a good coach to instill their culture!! You know, like every good team has before turning things around (Philly, Avs, DUCKS WE SHOUKDVE HIRED Q, both FL teams)
