4. The biggest issue is the country club atmosphere. i wanted Matthews traded cuz it would fill other holes and get some cap. Matthews has a lot of eyes on him now , no more excuses.

    Burube's style is too old school and his "dump and chase" style is too boring and does not fit the Leafs size and skill set.

    We need a younger, more offensive and dynamic coach that will allow the players play their game.

    I think Mathews biggest problem these past 2 seasons has been Berubes forced play style.

    I'm sure he has a ton of money already so he will be just fine. He can sail off into the sunset with his millions and enjoy what is left of his life 🙂

14. I was never able to actually figure out just what Berube's philosophy was with the Leafs. When he was with the Blues they were a straight line, hard nosed hard forecheck and cycle team. With the Leafs the style almost seemed to change from game to game. The power play was predictable and.lacked urgency. He did not have the personnel.to play his style and.cpuldn't adapt to a style more suitable to the talent on hand.

15. Its a shame. Berube Fired in St Louis because top players were dogging it and now Fired in Toronto because of the same reason. Good Luck Toronto You are gonna need it.

17. I would be fine with a young coach who can speak to the style of team. The team would be better off with a high scoring, run and gun offence who outscores their opponent. It would be fun to watch and fun to play and they have the team for it especially with the first overall pick coming. Berube was the wrong coach for this team. I wish him the best and am sure he will find a better fit.

18. This is fantastic! His system was way too simplistic, too much dump and chase with players that don’t have the speed or size for it to be effective. Running around chasing the other team all night is no way to play the game. You win with turn overs and being in the right position, specifically in the neutral zone. And skating into the open areas where the puck is going to be.

That problem, comprising essentially ONE core of players, considered stars on their respective national teams, failed across a whole group of cup winning coaches, executives, strategies, philosophies, and experiments. It took several years and drafts to put that core together in the first place. Sigh…

24. Berube is the hero Toronto deserves but not the one it needed right now.

25. this is what my dad and I were saying… even last year when they won the division they looked like dogshit and it was a complete fluke and you can see it in that chart. 24-25 they were red in almost every category and the only ones they were positive in was goaltending. So Berube's system is get completely outplayed and hope to god your goalie can save 38/40 shots.

32. i'm all for the fresh start.. But these entitled players are to blame over Berube who still has more cup rings then anyone else on this team rn.

33. Finally leafs making bold decisions. Don't waste time. Get new coach that's brings results and players feel comfortable with. Obviously Berube had chances but could not get players fired up when they needed it. Go leafs go!

35. I went to 3 games last season. It’s nice watching the game without commentators. I noticed that Mathews took more defensive zone faceoffs than offensive zone faceoffs. I like parts of Domis game but he is a giveaway machine and not a tape to tape passer. He passes to a zone and those get picked off. As a result Mathews hardly had the puck compared to his earlier years. The coaching was definitely an issue and I don’t know exactly how much of that was Bérubé vs the assistants but you need to maximize your best offensive players skills to a greater extent and not just play defence all night.

39. Sorry but if you need a marner or mcdavid level player to score. You aint worth shyte. 113th in scoring without marner. 30th last year. 2019 without marner 42nd and minus 9. Next year with marner 9th overall plus25. Jt was 47 goals plus 19 with marner. The only convo they should have with mathews is wheres your list

40. people were delusional saying to keep berube over matthews. i hate the "too many coaches" copout. you never keep a coach over the 2x 60 goal scorer. only way im moving matthews is if we're commiting to going younger/rebuilding and teams got attactive packages. i think we find a new coach who coaches/plays a modern style. keefe was too much offence and berube was too much defence. im hoping leafs can find a guy who can bring out the talent/skillset the roster has
