Washington had a good season, just finished short of a playoff spot.

The Protas brothers , another Hutson , Chychrun and Marshmellowniko and LT … a pretty good base to go with once Ovi bids adieu
I think the Caps really need to stop babysitting Ovi. And I know it's difficult to nearly impossible to do so with beloved superstars, record holders etc but, as a Pens fan, we're having this conversation with Letang right now, and that while he was okay on the second pair this year, it's really starting to look like he needs less minutes. And while everyone in Pittsburgh loves him and all the years and plays and goals and comebacks from strokes and injury that he's given us, at some point you need to do what's best for the team.
They went a ridiculous stretch of failing to win 2 games in a row
Disagree. Caps’ bounce back chances are better without Ovechkin. He should retire for the sake of the team.
I have a feeling that Ovi will be back for a farewell tour one more season
Time for Ovechkin- Crosby and Malkin as well- to retire and move on. They all have nothing left to prove. There are young players waiting to show their stuff. It's time.
Ovi hanging on for another ring, but if the capitals babysit him can they?
With how mediocre the Metro is they could sneak in depending if they can get a better power play.
Losing both games to the Canucks and getting pumped by the Rangers in their playoff push I think summarizes the season
I understand the argument in favor of Ovechkin retiring, but if a 25 year old had had a season like his, you'd be looking to tie him up with a long-term contract. Ovi staying is a dependent variable, though, that depends on what the Caps do in the offseason. If they go out and get a top 6 forward and a right handed shot on D, he will be more likely to stay, especially if that right handed D is John Carlson. If they decide to go with a full on youth movement, he might call it a day.
Not having Dubois most of the season is maybe being underestimated. Missing their solid second line center cost them at least two games over the time he was out.
So, close!
Lakovic and Parascak to Hershey , Protas and Cristall to Washington
Ovi to retirement castle
Good stuff thx 👍
Injuries really hurt especially in the middle of the season. I think if Dubois doesn’t miss almost the entire season caps are easily in the playoffs.
Capitals management want Ovechkin's decision ision before this year's draft. That is fair.
I am actually writing a paper on the Washington capitals season as a final paper (yes this is real) and during this paper I am going over every player on the team. What I have found is that Ovi is actually doing more harm than good. His power play (9th worst) and defense (45 worst)is so bad that his positive Wins above replacement (WAR) on offense is negated down to a -.16 overall. (For reference, Sonny Milano a player the capitals sent to the minors is a .16) In turn that means the caps would be better with replacing him. I know this is hard to hear but as a die hard fan, it’s time for him to go.
Literally two games 😭
Caps need to trade Charlie Lindgren, as Clay Stevenson is ready to backup Logan Thompson. Lindgren's numbers have continued to drop each season since he had 6 shutouts and a .911 SV% in Carbery's 1st season coaching the Caps. Lindgren's awful games in net was one of the reasons the Caps missed the playoffs this season.
They just need to move to the Pacific division, EZ 😂
Caps keeping Ovi on board means they're accepting mediocrity. He puts pucks in net, but is increasingly relying on empty netters to do so. He's no longer a spectacular 5v5 or even PP scorer, just above average.
And that's the best part of his game. He offers nothing defensively, doesn't do anything for possession, doesn't facilitate teammate scoring like he used to, doesn't kill pentalties, and his presence makes their PP one-note and easy to silence.
Maybe he has more to offer on a team that is strong enough to cover those holes, but Washington isn't. Keeping him around means they are happy being just-OK, rather than trying to improve the team or bottom out for draft capital.
