Tyler Yaremchuk and Liam Horrobin are back with another offseason edition of Oilersnation Everyday, continuing to break down what’s next for the Edmonton Oilers after another disappointing playoff exit.
The guys continue exploring possible offseason trade ideas and discuss which contracts Edmonton may need to move if they want to become serious Stanley Cup contenders again next season. From trade candidates to possible buyouts, there are major questions surrounding how this roster could look heading into next year.
There are also still unanswered questions surrounding the futures of head coach Kris Knoblauch and general manager Stan Bowman. With the season over for more than a week and no organizational changes announced, are both safe heading into the summer — or could something still be coming? 👀
Later in the episode, former NHL forward Landon Ferraro joins the show to discuss the Stanley Cup Playoffs, potential coaching changes around the NHL, and offseason goalie options for Edmonton.
The boys also dive into the Oilers’ goaltending struggles, debate whether Ryan Nugent-Hopkins should remain at 3C, discuss possible replacements for Jason Dickinson, and break down why the organization still hasn’t solved its crease problems.

Can't go back to McDavid with 2 backup or unproven goalies, need to resign a few of the FA aquisitions from this year and also need improvements on D, G and a commitment of overall team D which leads to major coaching improvements as the systems, adjustments and coaching were sub par for NHL last season. It will be interesting to see the direction Katz gives… worst case, blowing it up next year and using a couple of top assets to build the core for the next incarnation…
Liam very quick to dismiss Kapanen, a heart and soul guy who despite not perfect shows he gives a shit. Him and Podz routinely play with the most intensity, most effort on the team. They need to do better job at keeping players like that – it's why they are in the situation now; roster turnover and the lack of comradeship it creates is equally a problem as coaching, defense and goaltending.
I’d rather have Jenner, Coyle, Dickinson,& Murphy over Tuch
If you think goalies are high variance, then you give yourself multiple opportunities to succeed. You make multiple bets just like carolina, minnesota or colorado. You give yourself the opportunity to fail on one and you aren't screwed if they fail. Imagine the oilers without ingram this year. It's just important to not make stupid bets like Jarry where none of the metrics said he was better – lateral at best to skinner. So next year you can't make a bet on a goaltender that costs a lot of assets or money that we don't have. So maybe that's two of Levi, Dipietro or Cossa (if he's super cheap). Gustavsson if the Wild do want to dump his salary. Or Anderson if he comes at a cheap price. Make cheap bets that have a chance to work.
Your hypothetical lines kept forgetting Janmark is signed for next year (included on the cap already)! So everything’s solved!! 😅 1:13:34
100 out of 100 times I’m going to McMann and handing him a 5 mill deal before I hand that money to Roslovic
I wonder if a possible trade for Daccod would be on the table. He had a pretty meh year and Grubauer had a good year. If it was Jarry and Howard for Daccord and Rehkopf I think that is fair. Rehkopf had a pretty me year but can still develop into a bottom 6 player. The get an exciting player that could be a consistent top 6 winger (Schwartz, Tolvanen, McMann all UFA’s) we get a possible 1A and Seattle go into the year With Grubauer and Jarry splitting starts.
May long always is wonky gents
your money numbers are way out of whack can't afford any of the 3 c's
They may keep knoblauch?? He has a 2-3 year deal worth 2 mil a year. His contract only starts next year. The owner may not want to pay knoblauch for 2-3 years and get no value out of it. Mcdavid clearly wanted him there based on there history
Owners must be getting tired of dumping millions for nothing. I realize they are rich but 4-6 million thrown out the window for nothing value is still hard to swallow.
Cassidy is not coming for less than 4 mil a year probably so all kinds of Money out the door for not much value
Calvin Pickard had the most experience and should have been started till, Ingram and Jarry got comfortable .
Anyone coming in is going to need time , that expected on Defensive stability and mistakes removed permanently allows whoever in net to get as comfortably and team to be confidence building for forwards and D not to crowd the net from insecurity causing trainwreck goals against .
Freddy Anderson must be a no go, same with Bobrovsky. Bob won two cups with an extremely good, well-coached team in front of him; Stuart Skinner may well have won two Stanley Cups himself had he been Florida's goaltender. Bobrovsky was a not all that great goaltender for several years until he became great in Florida. Anderson has yet to win anything. This year, with Barkov out all season, Bobrovsky fell off a cliff. Both guys are old for goalies and injuries are an issue.
