My Final Thoughts on the Pittsburgh Penguins Season

The Pittsburgh Penguins exciting season came to an end a few days ago in game 6 of their first round matchup against the Philadelphia Flyers. The team lost all 3 of their first games in the series and despite a strong effort to climb back; they’d end up losing in overtime in game six. The Flyers and goaltender Dan Vladar shut down the high flying Penguins in a hard fought battle between two rivals.

  1. As a Penguins fan they tried hard but it was not enough. The games before the playoffs showed that. When the main 4 were "sick" they lost hardcore. The back end of the team is not there. They have to stop relying on the main 4 all the time.

  2. It was a fun year. I was happy to see the Pens back in the playoffs. The legacy of the top 3 is already secured, which I think is a double edged sword. On one hand, they have nothing left to prove and a lot of fans are just happy to see them in the ice. On the other hand, you need the hunger to push deep into the playoffs. I think it’s pretty obvious that they lacked that hunger in the first two games of this series. Did I think they’d make a deep run? No, but I think they are a better team than Philly. If they had showed up hungry in game one… well, we’d have watched them get dominated by Carolina last night instead of Philly.
